Final Ecclesiastes Study lesson, upcoming schedule notes, next Bible study topic

Church Family -

We hope our study of the Book of Ecclesiastes has been meaningful and edifying for you. Although there are several more chapters in the Book of Ecclesiastes, we will conclude our study this Sunday evening with a summary lesson, and we encourage you to make studying the Book of Ecclesiastes a recurring topic in your personal study routine. There is much to be learned!

Study questions for this week will be listed below, but before we get to those, we wanted to make everyone aware of the Sunday Evening schedule for the next several weeks:

July 17 (this Sunday) - summary lesson for Ecclesiastes

July 24 - no Sunday evening activities

July 31 - no Sunday evening activities

(Bro. Chris will have more to say about the 24th and 31st, soon)

August 7 - First Sunday Fellowship Meal

August 14 - Observance of the Lord's Supper

August 21 - small group study resumes, looking at the Attributes of God

Here are some questions to ponder for this Sunday's small group time:

  • What were your expectations when you began to study the Book of Ecclesiastes? Were those expectations met? In what ways were your expectations met, or not met?

  • What was the most significant personal discovery you've made from this study?

  • What surprised you the most about Ecclesiastes? What, if anything, troubled you? Do you have any outstanding questions about Ecclesiastes? If so, what are they?

  • Every week you were asked to pick a verse that really stood out to you in some way. Looking back at the verses you chose, which one now stands out among them to you? Feel free to pick a verse from chapters 9-12, too!

  • In what ways has Ecclesiastes helped you on your journey to Christian maturity? What areas in your walk with Christ need the most attention, as revealed by your study of Ecclesiastes?

  • Ecclesiastes is a book about the meaning of life. As you reflect on this theme, what does it mean to be truly satisfied in this life?

Alistair Begg:

What Is Your Life? - Archive - Truth For Life

How do we make the most of life when it’s so fleeting? Ironically, the author of Ecclesiastes invites us to consider death and the judgment thereafter as the keys. Alistair Begg explains that contemplating our mortality is not morbid but deeply realistic, since it ultimately leads us to that which can meet our deepest needs: the unseen, eternal truth of the Gospel. We are to fear God and to run to Him so that we may be delivered from this life’s every fear.

Preaching the Gospel from Ecclesiastes - Archive - Truth For Life

Using the passage of time as a framework, Alistair Begg preaches the Gospel against the backdrop of Ecclesiastes 12. What the Bible teaches us is that the beginning of life is not unknown, because men and women were purposefully created in God’s own image; nor is life a mysterious path to nowhere, because all mankind has been created with an innate understanding of eternity. The Gospel assures us that in Christ we will ultimately be free from the trauma of this life and discover a place marked by tranquility and beauty.
