Ecclesiastes Small Group Bible Study
Ladies,
We start our summer small group Bible study this Sunday night at 6pm (May 15). We will be studying the Old Testament book of Ecclesiastes. It's a short book right after the book of Proverbs.
To prepare for our study, take the time to read the first chapter of Ecclesiastes. As you read, note any words, phrases or teaching that may resonate with you. It may be good to make a few notes about what you see and question in the chapter.
We will discuss several study questions when we meet. Here are a few questions that will help you be prepared.
Why do you think Solomon used the word "vanity" (or "meaningless") so often? (Underline all the uses as you work your way through Ecclesiastes.) ... How is his main point applicable in today's world?
Choose one verse from Ecclesiastes 1 that stands out to you. It could be something you're intrigued by, something that makes you uncomfortable, something that puzzles you, something that resonates with you, or just something you want to examine further.
How did Solomon present a message of "joy" in a book so full of messages that seem so cynical? Why might some readers of Ecclesiastes have a hard time seeing that message? How do we get from cynicism to joy?
What are some of the practical applications of Ecclesiastes for us today? Why is it of particular relevance in modern America?
What evidence did Solomon present to prove that nothing really changes? Why is that conclusion important to Solomon's greater message to accept and enjoy God's gifts?
In what ways is it true that nothing changes in human society from generation to generation? In what ways is it not true?
I am excited to resume our ladies small group. Make sure you reach out to 3 or 4 of our ladies to encourage them to attend. See you at 6:00.
