COTA public comment, Bike to Work Day, helping our unhoused neighbors, transit zone-in meeting, and mural designs

Intro

Hi everyone, happy Monday! It feels like summer is officially here with the weather we’ve been getting lately so hopefully you are staying cool. FIRST Collective, a local non-profit and mutual aid organization is collecting items to help our unhoused neighbors beat the heat. Check out the details below.

If you have an upcoming event or a link you’d like to share for the newsletter, feel free to send suggestions.

Things you can do in person

  • Location: City Plaza on the corner of Front & Gay St.

MORPC, the City of Columbus, and partners are excited to invite you to our Bike to Work Day event on Thursday, May 23, 2024. Cyclists who bike to work are encouraged to stop by our event at the City Plaza from 8-10am, where we’ll be having e-bike test rides, the COTA bus bike rack, and more!

  • COTA is seeking public comment on proposed changes scheduled to take place September 2, 2024. Meeting at the COTA building downtown (33 N High St.) or on Facebook Live (https://www.facebook.com/cotabus/)

Learn more about the recommended changes by joining one of our upcoming public meetings or contact COTA to give your feedback.

    Meeting dates/time:
    Tuesday, May 21 12:00pm-1:00pm

Things you can do online

  • FIRST Collective is collecting items for our unhoused neighbors and their pets:

You can order and send supplies directly to us through their Chewy or Amazon Wish Lists.

  • Transit Columbus monthly meeting is canceled for May, but will be back on June 11th at 7:00pm at the main library. In the meantime, you can sign up for one or many working groups here!

Other Stuff

We received almost 60 applications from talented artists, and we’ve narrowed it down to 4 stunning designs for the Olentangy Trail pump station! Now, we want to hear from you!

Please take our survey to see the concept designs and narratives, and let us know which mural you’d love to see come to life. Only vote if you live in the Columbus area and/or are a customer of DPU. (Columbus Department of Public Utilities)

In Case You Missed It

  • The City of Columbus is modernizing its zoning code for the first time in more than 70 years. This is an opportunity for our community to “Zone In” on how we’ll grow and prosper. Sign up to view the gallery in person and visit the page to learn more.

  • LinkUS Engagement Survey (2 minutes)

We invite you to share your thoughts on LinkUS and public transportation's impact on your life and community. Your answers will be shared as part of a social media initiative to spread awareness about LinkUS and what it means for the Central Ohio region. Thank you for your participation!

  • Mark up the Vision Zero Columbus map. Have a close call walking, biking, or getting around town? Do you know a dangerous intersection that can be improved? Help identify these spots on the Vision Zero map.

  • Join us to fund abortion & build power!

Legal abortion access means nothing if patients can't afford abortion care. Join us to fundraise for Abortion Fund of Ohio—an organization that helps patients with financial and practical supports! 100% of fundraising funds patient costs—from covering the appointment itself to childcare, transportation, & travel. Have a great day everyone!
