Bicycle Advocacy Summit, Zone-In Public Hearing, Habitat for Humanity, Community Serve

Hi everyone, happy Monday and happy June! Abortion Fund of Ohio wrapped up their Fund-a-Thon last month, thank you to everyone that donated! This week we have a bicycle advocacy summit, a public comment hearing on the zoning update, and a couple more opportunities. This is also the final week to submit comment for the Zone-In update so don’t forget to send your comments if you haven’t done so already.

Yay Bikes! is excited to host its 2nd Bike and Mobility Advocacy Summit on June 6th from 5-7:30 pm. We hope you'll join us! Council President Hardin and Council President Pro Tem Rob Dorans, chair of the Zoning Committee, will hold three public hearings during May and June regarding the proposed new 2024 Zoning Code and Map. The Zone In Initiative is a multi-phase effort to comprehensively update the City’s Zoning Code and map for the first time in more than 70 years. Currently, residents can provide input during the 60-day public comment period until June 10. The current phase focuses on key corridors.
If you would like to provide written or public testimony, including signing up to speak at a hearing, email Kevin McCain at KBMccain@columbus.gov. Written testimony must be received by email by 3:00 pm on the day of the hearing. Please include “written testimony” in the subject line of your email. Members of the public can also sign up to speak in person at the hearing. Each speaker will be limited to remarks lasting no longer than three minutes.Saturday, June 8 8:30am-2:30pm Habitat for Humanity construction 🏠
Help Habitat serve a local family! There is no experience necessary. Tasks will vary and our helpful site leads will teach you everything you need to know. You must be 16 years or older (and accompanied by an adult 21 or over if you are under 18) to volunteer. Come out and help Habitat, learn new skills, and meet some amazing people. Three volunteer spots left.Heer to Serve, a mutual aid group working with the unsheltered community in Columbus is hosting a community serve this weekend. (Saturday, June 8 at 6pm) Check out their site on how to donate and volunteer.

This historic legislation will significantly improve and expand access to outdoor recreation opportunities across America’s public lands.
The EXPLORE Act will support and grow outdoor recreation opportunities across the country so all Americans can get outside and enjoy our public lands. The bill includes provisions to streamline permitting processes to support bike guides and outfitters, identify new long-distance bike trails, increase recreation access for underserved communities, and more.
