Hey! My brain is bad and I have been trying to write something cool and longform for actual weeks, but it’s not hitting the standard I want to hit. So I’m gonna just do some small bits about some stuff I really liked in one of the busiest months of my year. I hope you like it!
Oh! Also! I’m using Substack Notes a little, so if you have the Substack app on your device you’ll see my posts — although don’t expect much, I’m not super enthused about the whole thing.
A bunch of my friends had been nagging me to play Pentiment, and they were right to nag me about it! It’s a fun little medieval murder mystery from the people who wrote Fallout: New Vegas that lets you sit with the consequences of your actions in a way I haven’t seen a game do for a bit. Absent of any voice acting, it presents its characters’ “voices” in (mostly) caligraphy, and it’s just an aesthetic and narrative delight.
Pentiment is available on PC and Xbox, and is in the Game Pass catalogue
Okay, so I guess I was on a murder mystery kick this month. I’m gonna talk a little bit more about this next month — because while it remains one of my all-time favourite games, a second playthrough has given me some more thoughts about the game as a whole — but it was so nice to be back in Inaba, with a delightful(ly flawed) cast of characters and some very fun combat, that I couldn’t help but find an excuse to remind you to play Persona 4 Golden. What a game. And what a soundtrack!
Persona 4 Golden is on PS Vita (remember that?), PS4, Switch, Xbox and PC (and is on the latter two through Game Pass)
Oh hey, the nicest show in TV is back! There’s been surprisingly little Ted so far this season (sorry if you’re not caught up), but the show’s B-plots are interesting enough to keep you engaged and Sudeikis and co’s performances remain as solid as ever. There’s still enough of this season for it to be great, but for now it’s mostly just good. I guess we’ve just gotta believe.
Ted Lasso is streaming now on Apple TV+
I spent a lot of March being pretty bummed out at not being able to get tickets for the first Eurovision in the UK for 25 years. I’ll probably write something about the contest’s best songs before May rolls into view, but I’m gonna leave you with this: Austria’s entry, Who The Hell Is Edgar?, about a person possessed by the ghost of Edgar Allen Poe. No, really. It’s also a critique of the state of streaming music — no, really! Look, just watch the thing. I don’t think it’s going to win the contest, but boy is it going to have fun.
Until next time!
