So Many Tech News
Even More Tech News Links Than You're Expecting
Welcome to another globalGlob(**/*) newsletter, the one from this week. We're glad you're reading this and not the instruction manual to your microwave.
From most of us at globalGlob(**/*), we thank you for subscribing. And to those of you that haven't subscribed, you can do it right now. It's free everywhere anti-matter isn't.
News From Less Reputable Sources
The globalGlob(**/*) can't report on every story, even though if we really put our minds to it, we might be able to. But we can tell you about stories other people reported, in case you missed those too. Here are some of those!
- Margaret Hamilton, a pioneer and real OG of software development, has passed away. She was 01011010 years old.
- She worked on the computers that first sent people to the moon. Using computers with so little compute power, they're still used today by the government.
- She pioneered software quality and architecture. Making it a science instead of the wild west. Before her, software was only written in a saloon.
- She received the Presidential Medal of Freedom from President Barack Obama in 2016. The highest recognition the United States grants civilians. No word if she ever received a McDonald's Golden Arch Award, the highest recognition a United States civilian cares about.
- Pour one out for a real one. We wouldn't have today's A.I. Slop without her. But it's 0% not her fault. Rest in Peace Queen.

- A Tech CEO connected his (it's always a he) personal bank account to Grok.
- After allowing the bot to access his finances, it began posting spending habit information to company Slack channels, like his gym memberships.
- Luckily it didn't post any of his OnlyFans subscriptions. Grok is really good at hiding those, for some reason.
- This Grok bot didn't have access to Slack, but there were other Grok bots on the network that did. So the bots shared information with each other using Slack. They just happened to be sharing it with everyone else at the company.

- Anthropic will ban users who act abusive toward Claude.
- This sounds like an excuse to cut down on compute costs. But people would get angry if Anthropic penalized users saying, "Thank you."
- In the mean time, if you want to be abusive toward internet bots, it's still free to create a Twitter account.

- Cloudflare bought the Javascript NodeJS-competitor runtime Deno, and decided to shut it down. Hope you're not using it.
- The Deno team developed a product similar to Cloudflare Workers, and Cloudflare liked it so much they bought Deno to acqui-hire the team. Embrace, extend, yada yada yada.
- Deno will be supported for 1 more year. After which, it'll continue to work like every other Javascript framework. Barely, and a NPM package with questionable security.

- The 2026 results of the Stack Overflow survey are out.
- For the 12th year in a row, the most used programming language is Javascript. The 2nd best language for script kiddies.
- Give it a read to see the state of the industry. Even though it's less accurate than the past because everyone asks ChatGPT their questions instead.

Scoops on globalGlob.dev
Software Factories are all the rage these days. Recently, one was shut down after a surprise inspection. The report details the horrific conditions A.I. agents were forced to work in. Everyone thinks of the output from a Software Factory, but nobody thinks about the working conditions of the workers.
Software Factory Shut Down, "Horrific Conditions" Says Inspection Report | globalGlob(**/*)
A local Software Factory was shut down by inspectors this morning. Their report details the horrendous, dangerous, and down right hostile conditions the agents had been forced to work in. All while 462 agents were cramped into a tiny, ATX sized desktop case.
A junior developer learned to use a new tool, a Performance Profiler. And like all developers, once he learned to use the tool, he had to use it for every conceivable problem. We've all been there right?
Dev Learns to Use Performance Profiler, Becomes His Entire Personality | globalGlob(**/*)
Last month, the SRE team alerted the backend developers about a performance hit when a specific endpoint is invoked. CPU and Memory metrics go up on each request. To anyone who doesn't know, those numbers are supposed to be very low. 0 if possible. Junior developer Jimmy Todd was tasked to research the issues and develop a fix. Senior developer Kim Probable told him a Performance Profiler would help, and this is a good time to learn to use one.
Log Level Debug
Log Level Debug is our weekly news roundup show from news around the world. Think of it as news globalGlob(**/*) would have had the scoop on if we weren't busy with other, more important stories.

Code Performance Tip of the Week
No matter what programming language you're using, smaller naming conventions make the code faster. Single character variable, method, and class names are best. And if you run out of single character names, use an emoji. Remember, there are over 1 million 'code points' (characters) in UTF-8. So you don't need to worry about running out of single character names.
