Late July Leatherdykes Newsletter
The late July newsletter for Glasgow Leatherdykes
We’re finally in the back half of the year! I am extremely excited to start getting back to reasonable levels of daylight. Plus, this weather is a bit too warm for leather, which is no fun for any of us. Anyway, onwards with usual stuff.
Upcoming Events
Bootblack Social / Erotic Bootblacking Workshop
Our next bootblack social is on Wednesday 15th July, at Adrian’s on Victoria Road (G42 8RW) from 7pm till late. The workshop is going to be on erotic bootblacking, so, if you are interested in getting hot and heavy at the stand then this is the workshop to go to. No prior bootblacking experience needed, and I can do a quick 101 afterwards for anyone who wants it.
Solidarity Pride Hub
We’re going to the Glasgow Solidarity Pride Hub all day on Saturday 18th July, at The Pyramid at Anderston on Argyle Street (G3 8DS) from 11am till 5pm. (Shameless cross promotion here cause this is also a me and Bootblack Rowan joint.) If you also want to get involved either as a volunteer or as an org you can sign up here. Anyway it’ll be good fun, so see you there after the sit in at Glasgow Green.
Lesbian Summer Bar at Adrian’s
Some of our femme pals are running a bar night at Adrian’s on Friday 31st July, at Adrian’s on Victoria Road (G42 8RW) from 6pm till late. I have been told it’ll be “sweaty summer vibe horny femme ran”, which sounds great to be (and although I won’t be able to make it, I’m sure you’ll see some of the admin team there).
August Bar Night
Next next bar night is on 5th of August at Game Over on Drury Street (G2 5AA) from 7pm till 11:30pm(ish). Same deal as usual! Remember to bring cash for bootblacking tips but I can also take card payments now! (£5 for the basic stuff; £10 for more involved care.) This will be our first birthday! We might have a card to give to the bar for hosting us this past year, so if we do then make sure to sign that at the front desk.
Queer Classics Club
As per the last email, Queer Classics Club is running Thursday 13th August, at Category Is on Allison Street (G42 8NN) from 7pm. Their first book is Goodbye to Berlin (1939) by Christopher Isherwood. Join their mailing list by emailing here.
Boundless
So tickets for this have sold out, but if anyone is going to be in Birmingham from Friday 14th to Sunday 16th of August, 5/6ths of the Glasgow Leatherdykes admin team will be there too for Boundless. And! 4/6 of us will be running workshops on the Saturday. So come say hi if you’re there!
Leatherdykes Recommend
A Hand in the Bush: The Fine Art of Vaginal Fisting, by Deborah Addington (Photographer Rowan)
“Those of you who’ve seen my hanky at the bar night will be unsurprised by this recommendation. As an introduction to both why one might want to put their whole hand inside someone and how to do it, you could do an awful lot worse than this book. It’s got a lot of that “90’s writing about sex” tone to it and is now nearly 30 years old (and thus neither totally up-to-date or particularly trans-inclusive), but the core content is both still right and still useful.”
Blog
Okay! First we’ve got a research-y thing for y’all. If you ever want us to promo your thing on the newsletter, the best thing to do is send us an email. Do let us know if you come to our events or are signed up to the newsletter or are engaged with your own local leather scene since we want particularly to support our attendees and other leatherfolk, though we also promo other stuff sometimes. We also tend to promo in the newsletter rather than on Insta (I kind of just hate Insta, and I assume you do too, dear newsletter subscriber), so if you want quick promo for something please get in contact about it before the Sunday before the first and third Wednesday of each month.
Anyway! Here’s the thing: https://fullerton.qualtrics.com/jfe/form/SV_d0QglQvqyjb4PS6 It’s for research on “Lesbian Erotic Life” to be published in the Journal of Lesbian Studies. I would hope that we all have a lot to say about this one. It takes 20 minutes, according to the consent form.
That’s mostly it for this month. Do come by the stall at the Solidarity Pride Hub this Saturday. There will be bootblacking at our stall (though not from myself). Also, submission guidelines for the the second Glasgow Leatherzine will be out in the next newsletter. So get hype.
As usual, as ever, I love you.
With a passion that may strain our bonds of affection,
