Late December Leatherdyke Newsletter
The late December newsletter for Glasgow Leatherdykes
Yo!! Welcome to festive hell. Glasgow Leatherdykes solemnly promise never to play xmas music at our events – you’re welcome! Anyway, here’s what we got coming up…
Upcoming Events
Gear Swap / Bootblack Social
(Power cuts notwithstanding) we’ll be running a gear swap for leather, clothes, kit, kink gear etc on Wednesday, 17th of December, at Adrian’s on Victoria Road (G42 8RW). This will be the last leatherdyke social thing of the year, so even if you don’t have gear to swap or whatever, come and hang in a more chill space with the team. As always, there’ll be a space for bootblacks new & old to do some peer-to-peer learning and practice!
Bar Night
As always, we’ll be running it back on Wednesday 7th January, at Game Over on Drury Street (G2 5AA) from 7pm till 11:30pm(ish). It’ll be the first one of the year for y’all to decompress after the festive period.
Leatherdyke History Night / Bootblack Social
Pencil this back in for Wednesday 21st January, at Adrian’s on Victoria Road (G42 8RW). We’ll be doing a presentation on leatherdyke history, culture & theory as well as our usual bootblacking social space.
Leatherdykes Recommend…
Hothead Paisan, by Diane DiMassa (Photographer Rowan)
“Recently re-released as a new collection by New York Review Comics, this is an absolute classic of 90s dyke zine culture. Insane, mad and constantly pissed off, it’s an excellent way to get through being upset at having to deal with the constant barrage of evil shit we all live with.”
We Say We Love Each Other, by Minnie Bruce Pratt (Milo)
“A beautiful book of poetry that made me cry several times, and at other times made me really horny about fisting. I borrowed it from Glasgow Women’s Library (shout out to Glasgow Women's Library!).”
Blog
So! A few of us went down to UK Bootblack in Manchester last weekend, which was great fun. Shout out to Astrid (outgoing UKBB title holder & the humble president of London Leatherdykes), the competitors Wookie (now the incoming UKBB title holder) and Calah, the judges and the whole organisational team – as well as all the other attendees from new and ongoing leather/dyke orgs across the country & beyond. We saw next level bootblacking and we’re happy to relay (or rather, overly excited to infodump) everything we learned while we were down there. So come along to bootblack social this Wednesday and we’ll give y’all the full recap.
Also, huge shout out to Glasgow Sunflowers for inviting us to the “Ho Ho Hoedown” last Friday (also shout out to Milo for going and doing some bootblacking).
Not even gonna mention the zines.
Anyway, all my love to y’all.
With embittered determination to make it through the rest of the year,
yr girl, yvette, for Glasgow Leatherdykes
