Early March Leatherdykes Newsletter

The early March newsletter for Glasgow Leatherdykes

Wow, what a year!

. . .

Okay apparently it is only March, and early March at that. Well, here’s the early March newsletter to help us along through the next [checks notes] ten(?!) months.

Upcoming Events

THAG Fundraiser Gig

This is tomorrow!! Get your tickets!!! Trans Healthcare Access Glasgow are putting on a gig Monday 2nd March, at Stereo on Renfield Lane (G2 5AR). Tickets are £10–15 and available here. Money goes to getting trans people blood tests, plus the bands seem cool (more details on the ticket page).

Bar Night

Our March bar night is going to be this Wednesday 4th March, at Game Over on Drury Street (G2 5AA) from 7pm till 11:30pm(ish). Same deal as usual! Remember to bring cash for bootblacking and zines and crap (if you want bootblacking or zines or crap x).

Leatherdyke Love Letters Launch

Our pals at DykeHouse Press are doing a zine launch for their Leatherdyke Love Letters on Friday 6th March, at Category Is on Alison Street (G42 8NN) from 7pm. Our own Photographer Rowan will be giving a talk on queer publishing from ~1980–2000.

Glasgow Solidarity Pride Fundraiser Pub Quiz

MORE shameless cross-promotion! Wow! Glasgow Solidarity Pride (which I am co-organising) is doing a pub quiz (which I am hosting) on Thursday 12th March, at Stereo on Renfield Lane (G2 5AR). Tickets are PWYC (recommended £6–10) available here. The funds are to secure a venue for an anti-corporate Pride hub this summer (if you went to the NPiG Pride hub last year, it’s gonna be like that). Follow the insta here if that sounds like your thing.

Bootblack Social / Stand Management Workshop

Our next bootblack social is on Wednesday 18th March, at Adrian’s on Victoria Road (G42 8RW) from 7pm till late as well. This one will include a workshop and discussion circle about running a bootblack stand, managing a queue, and everything beyond actually working on the boots. No experience necessary and no kit needed. If you do want a short tutorial on bootblacking basics, myself and Bootblack Rowan will be there with our kits to show you after the workshop, so just ask!

Leatherdykes Recommend…

Castration Movie Anthology ii. The Best of Both Worlds (2025), dir. Louise Weard (Synthie)

“Transgender Cinema (TM), but instead of for babytrans it's for degenerate insane transexuals who've been transitioning 5+ years.”

In the Dream House, by Carmen Maria Machado (Milo)

“Yvette told me I should read this, and she was right. It’s about an abusive lesbian relationship and the experience of being in it and getting out of it, looking back on it, and so on, told through snapshots and memories of The Dream House. It was pretty devastating and I cried multiple times. This was a book I needed to read. I keep a picture of the section ‘Dream House as Lost in Translation’ on my phone because it’s the section that spoke to me most and completely broke me down. This is not a cheerful one, sorry.” [editor’s note: coincidentally, I also have “Dream House as Lost in Translation” saved on my phone.]

Blog

So… you know how I promised to have ANTI-PROTOCOL out before the March dyke night…

Anyway, it’ll get done when it gets done. Sometimes things need to be entirely rewritten because of fundamental issues that you don’t notice until the eleventh hour. But hey, that hopefully means some better writing for y’all. As leatherdyke Shigeru Miyamoto said, “A delayed zine is eventually good, but a rushed zine is forever bad.”

On a more encouraging note, the photoshoots for Glasgow Leatherdyke Zine #1 (I think that’s what we’ve gone for?) went well. I’ve not been involved with editing the photos but last I heard they were looking good. So! There will be hot stuff your way soon!

As always, love y’all and miss y’all and I’m very much looking forward to seeing y’all on Wednesday.

With a healthy amount of aspirin in my system,
yr girl, Yvette, for Glasgow Leatherdykes
