It’s June! Well, it’s May. But it’ll be June soon! I hope everyone is enjoying the warmer weather, even if the whole climate change thing is a bit concerning…

Bar Night

Our next bar night will be on Wednesday 3rd of June, at Game Over on Drury Street (G2 5AA) from 7pm till 11:30pm(ish). Same deal as usual! Remember to bring cash for bootblacking tips but I can also take card payments now! (£5 for the basic stuff; £10 for more involved care.)

Dyke Just Do It

This is a performance art piece by Sweatmother reckoning with capitalist (mis)representations of dykes. It’s going on Friday 5th and Saturday 6th of June, at SWG3 (G3 8QG). Free tickets here.

Glasgow Outernational

We are in no way involved with this but it looks cool and a couple of us should be in attendance! Go check out this eclectic community event on Saturday 6th of June, at [as-yet-undisclosed location in the east end] from 3pm to midnight. Tickets here.

Zine Making Fundraiser

As you may know, a couple of us are involved in Glasgow Solidarity Pride and are looking to fundraise to cover venue hire costs. Come along to a session of zine making about pride on Thursday 11th of June, at Glasgow Zine Library on Albert Road (G42 8DN) from 6:30pm to 8:30pm. Tickets here!

Leathermen Scotland Social

A couple of us (myself included) will be hanging at the Leathermen Scotland social on Sunday 14th of June, at The Gallery Bar on Brunswick Street (G1 1TB) from 3pm onwards for a few hours. If you want to hang with the boys, they’re very welcoming! Worth noting that they’re most in full leathers, if you’re unsure how to dress.

Bootblack Social / Repairs at Home Workshop

Our next bootblack social is on Wednesday 17th June, at Adrian’s on Victoria Road (G42 8RW) from 7pm till late. This one will be on the repairs you can’t just do at the stand. Heavy stuff!

Leatherdykes Recommend

Bob Flanagan: Supermasochist, by Bob Flanagan (Fletcher (not an official admin team member!! just a pal))

A very grounding account of intense masochism, utterly uncloaked by spiritualism. Wonderful companion to the modern primitives book + ‘movement’ which is also worth a (very critical) read! Weird guy psychoanalyses himself for a hundred pages, expect sharp things in genitals. [Available free online here.]

The Lesbian Body, by Monique Wittig (trans. David Le Vay, Winter Editions, 2025) (Photographer Rowan)

Wittig's attempt to write a "book totally lesbian in its theme, its vocabulary, its texture" is an incredible exercise in inventing new ways to be weird and horny. If you've ever wanted to think in excruciating detail about how erotic the construction and continuous becoming of the body is on a fundamental level (and how erotic it is to dismantle the body and the self) then this one is for you.

Probably best gotten at by D&G's observation that "Whenever someone makes love, really makes love, that person constitutes a body without organs, alone and with the other person or people." [A Thousand Plateaus, Ch 2. One or Several Wolves?]

Blog

We had such a great time at the zine fair! Thank you so much to Glasgow Zine Library for putting it on and having us, and thank you to everyone who showed up to say hi, everyone who perused the material, and everyone who found out about us for the first time there. Genuinely just like, I personally had so much fun. Shout out to zines. We’ll be making more.

On that note, we likely won’t be doing another printing ourselves of the first Leatherzine until October or so. If you still want a copy, the last few will be available at the bar night on Wednesday. But! there will be another free zine available for y’all about leather and leathersex. I hope excerpts on leathersex was informative; it seemed well received from what I’ve gathered so we’ll keep up the free informative zines for at least a little while.
