March 2026
Hello everyone joining me from Tumblr, which seems like it’s thinking about being the next social media(ish) site to totally shit the bed and remove all reasons anyone wants to use it. Congratulations?
They’ve rolled back the change for now, but I don’t trust them not to do the same thing slightly differently next month. I like posting sketches or dumb things that don’t need to be on my website there, and joining in with fandom by sharing fanart too. Tumblr has been the last place that worked in a way I enjoyed for fandom, and I don’t have any good ideas for a replacement.

PIE was a lovely convention - my first Pittsburgh comics event! I forgot to take any pictures (of course) but thank you to everyone who came by to say hello. I’m going to apply for the Pittsburgh Zine Fair, so I’ll hopefully be back in October. In the meantime, I’m getting ready for Brooklyn in April.
I might have a few shirts - just did my first try at real screenprinting last night and it went well. The placement was a little low, but the actual results exceeded my expectations.

I’m not quite ready to do proper production/sales yet, but you’ll be the first to know when I am. I’d like to do pre-orders so I’m not guessing at sizes.

I painted a gift for my friend inspired by her cat sitting on a record player. This is my first time using the shellac ink underlay on a larger piece - I’d previously just used it for postcards and sketchcards.

I have two more paintings in this style penciled, and dozens of ideas as always.

I’ve sketched the cover for my next NewOldRare short, though I keep swinging back and forth between watercolour and digital.

I’m tempted to do watercolour because it’s been on my mind. I still haven’t figured out the right watercolour look for comics and the only way to do that is to draw a 12 pager.

Publishing house editors have told me they love my work, but want “a watercolour book like this” from me - no comment on the story or anything. Just has to be a watercolour book. Any watercolour book as long as it looks like that. I think that’s a weird attitude because the look should fit the story, and the style they give as an example is not suited to longform comics. It’s a picture book, they’re splash pages.
I would like to do a watercolour book, but not for them. If I have to work full time for years to support myself while I paint a whole 200+ page book, why should the publisher get it? How did they contribute? What am I getting out of their involvement? Indie publishers are different, though I’d approach them with a finished book.

Website Updates
I added work to the illustration and sketchbook sections.
Upcoming Shows
BICS - April 18th and 19th - Brooklyn
Flamecon - August 15th and 16th - Manhattan
Recommendations
Screenburning.com - where I got my screen made. I don’t have enough ventilation in my apartment to mess around with chemicals.
The Hated - one of my favourite melodic post-hardcore (first wave emo) bands. They broke up in 1990 and Numero Records have been working with them to polish up and release their recordings, along with other bands from that genre/era. They played a reunion show in 2023, which I postponed surgery to attend.
