Gil's week #202032
This week I…
- Set up my old OnePlusOne with LineageOS as an experiment of using a google-free android phone. So far so good, but I know that I can’t have a single phone if I got this route since banking apps don’t support weird Android Roms like lineageOS.
- Found out about Service Workers, I’m not sure what one could do with them right now, but it looks like a cool tech to explore.
Sound of the week
- Trepalium - Moonshine Limbo, I checked this band out earlier this week to see if they had made anything new since last time, and this song is great. This is weird band, they mix some sort of french jazz with metal in a pleasing way.
Great URLs
- The art of not thinking, this article has some truth to it, it’s basically about how if we do things without overthinking them, we are more likely to do them, it’s a way to trick our will power into doing things even if we don’t want them, and I found this to be helpful when I built some habits for myself, like doing some exercise before taking a shower, it sucks, but now it’s simply what I do, no questions asked.
- What to do on your first 90 days as a VPE/CTO, this mindmap is great, even if you’re not planning on becoming a VPE/CTO (I sure don’t plan on becoming one in the short term), it’s a nice todo list on things to check when joining a company in any sort of leadership role, or even just as an engineer. I’ll surely try to do a more lightweight version of this next time I switch jobs.
- An open plan is an interesting idea, similar to now where people share what their plans are in their blogs/sites to be updated frequently. I made one for me here, if you make one, do share.
Cheers,
Gil
