Gil's Week #202026
This week I...
- Was on holiday for the whole week
- Played Red Dead Redemption 2 (but Gil, I thought you finished it last Sunday! Yeah, but what if I complete the game again, this time, slowly?).
- Prepared for Europython, I'm going to be session chairing (basically introducing speakers and managing their time/questions) for the first day.
- Finished reviewing the last few chapters of the book I'm reviewing (more on this later).
- Moved my personal knowledge base from vimwiki to org-mode, there's still some things I need to do, formatting and links between the files, but I'm now comfortable enough in emacs that I can use org-mode + org-roam for my knowledge base.
- Got a hey.com invite and a trial account (gil.codes@hey.com help me test it out), although I don't think I'm going to be using the service since I already have a protonmail account that I'm happy with and paid for.
Sound of the week
- In This Moment - Call Me, a metal cover of a classic.
Great URLs
- Foam a personal knowledge management built on VSCode, this is similar to org-roam, a more "open" way of having a "roam"-like system without having to use roam (nothing against it other than not trusting a third party with my information and being scared of not having access to my data if they die), if you're interested in personal knowledge systems and use VSCode, you should check it out.
- A list of engineering blogs by companies, another repo I starred, now that I'm trying to curate my own "Hacker News", I've been on the look out for more blogs to follow. If you like engineering blogs, I'm sure you'll find some good ones over there.
- An intro to Spikes, Geepaw explains how he uses spikes during his day to day work as an engineer. I found this idea of writing code with the purpose of learning, throwing the whole thing away (git reset --hard) before starting to code on-the-road, very interesting and I want to try to use it too on my day-to-day. Will report back if it sticks.
Cheers,
Gil
