Save the Date! Mandala Projection Update
Hello, hello! Before I jump into what’s new, I have a small ask.
I’d like to know what social network you use most frequently! I personally prefer posting to Instagram as it’s the most visual, but I have accounts on pretty much all of the most popular platforms. To participate in the survey, simply click on the link of your preferred platform below.
Thanks in advance for your input!
Now, onto the good stuff!
— WHAT I'M WORKING ON —
Right now I'm finishing up the alternative mandala projection. Yes, alternative. I kept watching the forecast and while Tuesday is the first day of spring, Minnesota rarely follows the calendar when it comes to weather. With a nighttime low of 17°F (which will feel like 4°F with the wind) and gusts up to 28 mph, it's just not feasible to set everything up and maintain my sanity. Also the operating temperature of my projector is 32°F and while I'll only be outside for a few minutes, I'd rather be safe than sorry.
That being said, I'm still going to go through with the original project when spring finally does arrive in Minnesota, likely next month. As I'm writing this I'm not sure where I'm going to be projecting this new mandala as I have to finish the animation first, but I have some ideas in mind.
If you'd like more details and a behind the scenes look at what I'm working on, upgrade to the Extended Version! Subscriptions are pay-what-you-wish and start at $1/month or get an annual subscription for $50/yr.
Where you can see the projection:
I'll be sharing the projection on location on March 19th via Instagram Live at 10:10pm CST, 4 minutes after the Spring Equinox begins. (You can only schedule lives on 5 minutes increments.) I had wanted to go live on YouTube as that's more widely accessible, however YouTube requires you to have at least 50 followers to go live and I didn't want the project to hinge on asking people to follow me there since there's currently no reason to. If you don't use Instagram, that's ok! I will be recording it to share on other social media platforms, including YouTube, as well as in the next newsletter.
— WHAT'S ON MY MIND —
What crossed my mind after deciding to pivot to making a different mandala rather than postponing the project all together was perhaps this is the beginning of a series for me. Different mandala projections in different places. It's not the first time I've stumbled into making a series. When I started creating location collages 22 years ago (yikes...), it wasn't until I approached a gallery with the one collage I had made and was offered a show if I made a series that I considered making more.
— ON MY RADAR —
Reading: Filterworld by Kyle Chayka
Most of my nonfiction reading lately has been about social media and its effects on society. This book dives into how algorithms work and how they have contributed to the cultural flattening, as the author refers to it, that has occurred because of social media. If you're curious about why everything seems to be the same, from coffee shop decor to architecture to some forms of art, I'd recommend you check it out!

I hope to see you on the Instagram Live on Tuesday!
Until the next newsletter, be well.
