The Ghoulish Times | 10.25.24
Hello and welcome to the latest issue of The Ghoulish Times. My name is Max Booth III and this is my spooky newsletter.
I am typing this newsletter with half the feeling in my left hand numb, so if you see some embarrassing typos today no you didn’t. Not entirely sure why it’s numb, other than it has been for a while and continues to worsen. Carpal tunnel, most likely. A pinched nerve, maybe. Anyway, that isn’t your problem. And it won’t be my problem anymore after I physically remove my hand with a chainsaw during my next live-stream. So…stay tuned for that.
But until then, here are some other things:
Our publicity ghoul, Mindy Rose, created this fun book display recently and I’d be foolish not to share it here, too. It’s really cool seeing a chunk of our books laid out like this. Reminds us why we do this stuff every day! This Halloween, treat yourself to some ghoulish delights.
Today (Friday, Oct 25) is the last day to pre-order a SIGNED & PERSONALIZED copy of Lucas Mangum’s Haunted Hearts. Lucas is driving down to the shop tomorrow to sign all of the stock we have waiting to mail out ahead of next week’s publication date.
If the idea of a coming-of-age Halloween cozy horror novella with emo vibes sounds like your kind of thing, please consider pre-ordering through the GHOULISH.RIP webstore. It’s also available through the other places you typically purchase books.
And, if you’re local, please join us tomorrow (Saturday, Oct 26) at 6pm for HAUNTED BONES: a spooky celebration book launch for both Lucas’s Haunted Hearts and my own novel I Believe in Mister Bones:
Book readings! Author signings! Costumes! Trick r treating! Free movie screening!
Come celebrate the publication of two new horror books by local Texas authors! We will be performing live readings and then discussing our latest publications (audience q&a encouraged!), followed by a good ol' fashioned book signing. We will close out the night with a FREE, SECRET HORROR MOVIE SCREENING!
Show up in your Halloween costume to receive a handful of candy and 10% off your order (valid any time throughout the day)!

I Believe in Mister Bones has been out a little over a week. My copies finally arrived a few days ago and I have to say…this thing is gorgeous in the flesh:
It’s gotten a handful of great reviews so far, but more importantly, I am beginning to hear troubling reports from readers. Multiple people have now told me they’ve experienced fucked-up dreams about bones while reading the novel. Did I accidentally write a cursed book?
If you read the book and happen to also experience bizarre bone dreams, please let me know!
Here are some more things about the book crafted in a way to make you buy it:
If you’d like to buy a signed copy, you can do so HERE. I won’t be shipping them out until early next month, however. Signed copies will also include a fun SKELETON STAMP.
Otherwise, buy it wherever else you get books.
In addition to the book launch tomorrow at my shop, I’ll also be selling signed copies in Houston next Wednesday, on Halloween Eve (Oct 30) at the newly-restored River Oaks Theatre.
Join the River Oaks Theatre for a pre-Halloween extravaganza as we screen three mystery horror films back-to-back-to-back on the big screen!
This suspense-filled spooktacular is curated by River Oaks Theatre's Artistic Director Rob Saucedo, Bloody-Disgusting's Meagan Navarro and Texas author Max Booth III.
Three secret horror films, one unbelievably wild night as we count down the final hours until Halloween. This one will leave you seeing skeletons.
Tickets available HERE.
ICYMI, popular drag queen Olympia Avalanche gave our very own Warren Wagner the sweetest shout out in her latest video! She called the zombies in The Only Safe Place Left Is The Dark "probably the most disturbing one[s] that I've come across." 😍

Danger Slater’s Starlet received an excellent review over at Horror Bookworm Reviews. Here’s a small snippet:
Be it handsaw, clever, cultivated DNA stored in Tupperware containers or pictures of oneself dry-humping a porter house steak, one thing is for certain, Starlet is an authentic story that is not gonna be easy to forget. A five star ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Horror Bookworm Recommendation.

Finally, I’d like to end this week’s newsletter with a fun acquisition announcement!
Shirley Jackson Award-Nominated author Nadia Bulkin’s sophomore collection ISSUES WITH AUTHORITY drenches the reader in a sensory overload of power, belief, and horrifying transformation.
Included within these pages: Bulkin’s much-anticipated novella “Red Skies in the Morning,” about a world filled with RING-style chain curses that the government is frantically trying to control, plus two novelettes: “Your Next Best American Girl”—which is a little like if David Cronenberg had made Miss Congeniality—and an original piece written for the collection titled “Cop Car”—in which a psychic government “fixer” discovers her true psychopathic calling.
Coming September 2025 from Ghoulish Books. All pre-orders will come with a signed sticker from the author. Secure your copy HERE.
Okay, that’s it for now! Goodbye, ghouls!
