Slim newsletter for today, but I do have Overheard’s somewhat-quarterly Substack mailer to share with you! You can read that here.

Overheard had our first rehearsal for our show on May 9th, and I’m feeling really energized about playing music again lately! Love those guys.
If you like this newsletter, why don’t you tell a friend about it? Or you can reply to this email and say hey. Whichever feels better to you.
Misc. Stuff I’m Into:
Movies:
La Chimera [2023, dir. Alice Rohrwacher]. I look forward to the day this film lets me in. Click the link for my Sausage and Orecchiette recipe.
Predator: Badlands [2025, dir. Dan Trachtenberg]. Best Supporting Actress for Elle Fanning’s disembodied robot legs.
Once Upon a Time…in Hollywood [2019, dir. Quentin Tarantino]. Really yapped about this one over on lboxd, and how Quentin being a weird freak bogs down what is otherwise an incredible movie.
Blow Out [1981, dir. Brian De Palma]. Movies about da movies!
The English Patient [1996, dir. Anthony Minghella]. Horny!
High Life [2018, dir. Claire Denis]. More to come.
Inherent Vice [2014, dir. Paul Thomas Anderson]. Maybe one of the funniest movies I’ve ever seen.
Music:
loving James Blake’s new record Trying Times;
falling in love with Weyes Blood’s Titanic Rising again;
Nik Bärtsch’s Ronin’s Awase (thank you KT);
My partner Em’s ongoing “Feminine Goop” project, which I have been following intently and you will hear about here when it’s done;
heavensouls’ westside trapped;
Nondi…’s Nondi_!
Chainsaw Man:
…more to come.
Wanna give a shoutout to my friend Evan (aka Nicer Days) and his absolutely delicious birthday DJ set this past weekend. It has been magnificent to watch you develop your DJ skills and groove ever harder at the decks. Happy birthday homie.
Between Chainsaw Man ending today and the other writing ideas I have been chewing on lately I have a lot trying to squeeze through a tiny door right now, but here is a silly sneak preview of what is to come if I can get it together.

If you still find yourself needing a yap from me, check out my review of Once Upon a Time…in Hollywood or the Overheard spring mailer, linked above.
See ya soon.
