A brief history of the group

Gemini Musical Theatre Group was originally the Warrington Technical College Choral Group, founded in 1970, before changing its name to the North Cheshire College Operatic Society and then to Warrington Light Opera. The group, which has performed at venues like the Barrow Hall Theatre and Culcheth theatre, rebranded itself as the Gemini Musical Theatre Company in recent years. The name Gemini came from two places, first the area of Warrington, and secondly the Gemini constellation, after all, our company is full of stars!

1970: Founded as the Warrington Technical College Choral Group.

1970s-1980s: Became the North Cheshire College Operatic Society.

1970s-2000s: Renamed Warrington Light Opera and performed at venues such as the Barrow Hall Theatre.

2000s: In the early 2000s, the group was forced to leave the Derek Newton Theatre at the Padgate Campus for upgrade work.

2008: Steve Rayner took over as Musical Director

2010: The group celebrated its 40th anniversary in 2010.

Present: The group is now known as the Gemini Musical Theatre Company and continues to put on full staged productions, usually in Spring, a Christmas show with a full orchestra and other occasional performances.

The current aims of the group are threefold:

  1. To provide enjoyment and entertainment for its members and the local community
  2. To contribute to the education of its members and the local community in the choral and theatrical arts
  3. To pursue other related matters in the interests of its membership
