"Hong Kong Fintech Week: AI Everywhere and Off to Singapore Next
Been crazy busy these past two weeks, folks! Just wrapped up Hong Kong Fintech Week 2024, and I'm already packing my bags for Singapore Fintech Festival 2024. Sorry, no new blog post this time - but don't worry, we'll get back to our regular programming after Singapore.
So, Hong Kong Fintech Week - what's the scoop?
Same old, same old with the talks - nothing groundbreaking. You know how these events go - more about who you meet than what you hear. If you're curious, the talks are available online, but honestly, you didn't miss much.
On the bright side, the networking was fantastic! Had some really solid conversations, especially about SmartDev (where I'm currently working). Seems like everyone's hunting for that sweet spot of quality development at Vietnamese prices. Can't blame them!
What's hot for next year?
One word: AI. Actually, make that AIAIAIAIAIAI... you get the point. Every startup was pushing AI, every big financial player had AI somewhere in their pitch. But here's what really caught my eye - China's fintech and AI game is seriously strong. I'm starting to think the West might be underestimating just how far ahead they are.
Investment scene update?
2025's looking pretty tough for fintech startups, not gonna lie. Investors are playing hard to get, and everyone seems more interested in partnerships than funding. Fun fact: several companies have actually approached SmartDev about potential product partnerships. Interesting times!
The not-so-great stuff?
Heard about that crypto VC guy allegedly spiking someone's drink? Seriously, what's wrong with people? That's the kind of stuff I just can't wrap my head around.
Next stop: Singapore! Let's see what that brings. Stay tuned!
