More Local Gardening Events in April 2025

Gardening events for the second half of Apil 2025, occurring in Prince Edward County and the surrounding areas. In-person events of local garden clubs covering topics such as gardening technology and hostas, plus online webinars about insects and invasive species.

🎉 A special 100th birthday shoutout to Brighton Garden Club!

If you’re in the area then do pop along to their April 22 event to help them celebrate this important milestone in their club’s history. The guest fee is just $5, and you’ll get to learn about designing with trees and shrubs (plus, there will be cake!)


🌱 Last call for local seedling sales

Two local seedling sales will be wrapping up soon, so be sure to get your order in before it’s too late!

  1. Check out Vicki’s Veggies fruit, flower and vegetable seedlings

  2. This fundraiser still has a few native trees and shrubs, all $20 for 5 seedlings


📅 What's Happening This Month

At this end of the month there’s plenty of in-person events happening, covering a huge range of topics from hostas and succulents to fungi and gardening gadgets. And if you don’t fancy going out, there’s still some great online webinars that are well worth your time!

  1. Native Plants for Tough Sites - April 19, 10am [online]

    • Get inspired by all the solutions that native plants can offer, and learn how to choose the best species for those problem spots in your garden.

  3. The Bluebird Comeback (Earth Day Event) workshop - April 22, 6-7.30pm

    • Guest Speakers will discuss the successful Bluebird Species Recovery Initiative while you make your own Bluebird box to take home.

  6. Hostas - April 24, 7pm

    • There are so many hostas to choose from in all sizes and this is your opportunity to see how to enhance your garden with our guest speaker.

  7. Grow Me Instead: Promoting Invasive-Free Gardening Across Ontario - April 24, 12 noon [online]

    • This webinar will outline several problematic garden plants and suggest native alternative that are proven to non-invasive or native, easily found and widespread availability and have similar requirements, shape and garden uses as the invasive species.

  8. Earth Day Celebration - April 25, 7pm [online]

    • Learn about the impacts of spotted lanternfly and box tree moth, plus tips and tricks for growing vegetables and herbs in containers.

  9. Annuals & Perennials Q+A Panel Discussion - April 25, 10am or 4pm

  11. Fungi of the County - April 28, 7pm

    • This presentation is ideal for those interested in the local fungi that can be found in Prince Edward County, gardeners curious about the fungi that grows in their garden, anyone looking for tips on mushroom-foraging.

  12. Notes on a Japanese Garden - April 29, 7-8pm [online]

    • In a Japanese-themed garden, a small space holds big ideas about designing with plants, stone, water and “ma”, the all-important space in between. Part garden travelogue, part gardening experiment, this lecture aims to inspire.

    • Attend for $12

    • Part of a lecture series presented by the Friends of the Central Experimental Farm and the Master Gardeners of Ottawa Carleton.

  13. Succulent Social - April 30, 6.30pm

    • Meetup of the Succulent Social Club. $25 monthly subscription includes monthly meeting with guest speakers, in-store discount, free plant-related monthly gift and a great community of succulent fans.

  14. Technically Gardening - April 30, 7pm

    • Learn about the handy gardening gadgets available to help with everything from garden planning and plant ID to irrigation and propagation. There's something for everyone (even Luddites!)

    • Free to attend, no guest fee. A recording of this presentation can be pre-ordered for $5 (free for members) for download later.

    • Tickets also available for the June 8 Native Orchid bus tour
