I have a newsletter now! [Toschi Recap #01]
Hi, Toschi here, and welcome to my first newsletter recap! If you are reading this, you probably already follow my work, and I cannot thank you enough for this. When I re-created my blog last year, my goal was to use the Web as I always liked: to find cool people around the things I love. I hope that this newsletter can be a more healthy way of doing this, without having to care about stupid social media algorithms.
Every other Friday, I will be humbly here to talk about the latest articles and reviews that I wrote, how my projects are going and some interesting recommendations from the internet.
And if you want to talk to me about any of that, just reply this email (or go to Twitter, Bluesky or Mastodon). If your inbox is full like mine and you want to follow my work in different ways, you can also go to my Telegram channel or my Steam curator profile.
latest from the blog
I mostly wrote game reviews in the past weeks, all of them using copies kindly provided by publishers and devs. I would like to thank all the people involved on those titles for the trust in me <3
Llamasoft: The Jeff Minter Story (9/10): an amazing interactive museum by Digital Eclipse about one of the biggest names on British game creation. Available on PC and consoles.
Quilts and Cats of Calico (8/10): a digital adaptation of a cute board game, you need to take a look if you are a cat lover (or like tile placement games). Available on PC, soon on Switch.
Sixty Four (4/10): a strange idle game that tells a bizarre story about cubes, but failed to engage me in its mechanics. Available on PC.
Penny's Big Breakaway (6/10): the new 3D platformer from the team behind Sonic Mania wasn't what I was expecting. Available on PC and consoles.
Arzette: The Jewel of Faramore (8/10): someone created a spiritual successor for the Zelda CD-i games and it was surprisingly good. Available on PC and consoles.
Promenade (9/10): a 2D platformer inspired by the best classics of the 3D platformer genre became one of my favorites of the year. Available on PC and consoles.
looking into the future
I'm almost done playing all the games from Playdate's Season One and you can expect my full review of this yellow tiny machine soon.
On the PC, I'm currently playing Puzzles for Clef and Lonesome Village, two cute adventure/puzzle games (plus one more title under embargo). You'll see me talking about them next week.
A new tabletop game is on the works by yours truly! It's a 18-card party game for 2-4 players inspired by Brazilian birthday parties. If you want to know more and be an ~exclusive playtester, just get in touch!
follow friday
If you never heard of Dropout's Game Changer, I need to talk to you about the best TV show ever made. It's "the only game show where the game changes every show", and it's amazing. Season 6 already started, and you can watch all of them on Dropout or their YouTube Membership. Some free episodes are available too!
I always loved to read about different versions of UNO (just because it's bizarre sometimes), but a crazy person is mixing all of them in a single game called The Uno Amalgam. I don't want to play it, but it's being a journey following the design diaries.
Garden Harvest is a free digital card game that uses a standard playing card deck in a really original way. Liked it a lot!
TikTok showed me a song created from a German tongue twister and I still can't stop to listening to it. Yes, I looked for translation later.
And because some memes die too young, it's never late to watch those amazing Chilean beer commercials inside the Star Wars movie. Spanish Wikipedia has you covered on context.
And that's it! Thank you for reading, subscribing and following my work in the internet. And again, if you have anything to talk, just reply this e-mail! Take care, drink water and see you in 15 days :)
