Talks, Code, and Discounts

Hello!

You may have noticed a little delay between the last newsletter and this one. School holidays interrupted the usual publishing schedule, but we're now back on track.

There has not been a lot of writing recently. Instead I've been working on code for the examples in the book. There is definitely a trade-off between creating compelling examples and falling down the rabbit-hole of coding, and I feel I'm just clinging on to the edge. I'm currently working on an example that uses tagless final for a cross platform user interface, which requires some changes to the terminal library it builds on, and, yeah, you can see how it goes. On the other hand, a few people have made contributions to the terminal library, which is great!

A couple of upcoming talks is my other big distraction from getting writing done.

This Thursday I'm speaking at Imperial on the topic of "Designing with Duality". In some ways this talk is a cut-down version of the central thesis of the book. In a very concrete way it is a spoken version of this blog post. Either way, Monica, if you are reading this I promise my slides will done well before the talk starts!

Later on this month I'm talking at Scalar on the topic of tagless final. (You see how it's all coming together?) This will be my first time in Poland, so that's quite exciting. I also have a crazy generous 50% discount code for the conference, courtesy of the organizers. If you fancy making use of this code drop me an email. It is a one-time use discount, so if there are multiple responses I'll choose one at random.

All this talk about things I have to do is really making me think I should get on and do them. Until next time!

Regards,
Noel
