Different Views on Understanding

Hello!

I hope the week has started well for you. I've been doing a bit of house keeping on my personal site. As part of those changes I have renamed this newsletter from "Scala with Cats" to "Functional Programming Strategies", to better reflect what it is about.

Not too much progress on writing these past two weeks as I've been busy coding. Part of that coding has been working on a web application for ScalaBridge London. We want something to help us organize our sessions, so obviously I had to try to build it. I haven't quite got it ready yet, but it's been a lot of fun to update my knowledge on modern web application development (as opposed to web service development, which is a more typical task for me.) It's really interesting to see how DSLs are being used in this space. A good example is Alpine.js, which is a DSL embedded in HTML for running Javascript.

I suspect I'll write up some thoughts on Alpine.js, and related projects, later. For now, I have a post on denotational and operational understanding. This is something I've noticed in my own learning, and in how I explain concepts to others. I hope you find it interesting.

Happy hacking!

Noel
