The government is reportedly weighing a plan to shorten its mandate and call general elections immediately after implementing the so-called Euro model. The move would allow the ruling coalition to face voters just as a new salary structure takes effect, a strategy the opposition claims to have seen coming. The Chamber of Economy has noted that while higher pay is welcome, any model must remain sustainable for the business sector.
The electoral maneuvering coincides with a visit from Ursula von der Leyen and Marta Kos as accession talks reach their final stages. Domestic indicators remain mixed: while pensions rose by 2.48 percent, the cost of the union-defined consumer basket has climbed to 2,170 euros. Budget revenues for the first eight months have surpassed two billion euros, though the state is still carrying a deficit of 146.2 million euros.
Investigators have collected DNA and fingerprints from several prison guards to determine how contraband reached the cell of a high-profile detainee. Elsewhere, the relevant ministry has ordered supervision of a foster home following allegations that three children were abused over a two-year period, a case on which prosecutors have so far remained silent.
