Jānis Urbanovičs has convened a congress for his party, Saskaņa, with a proposal to dissolve the political force entirely. The move follows a parliamentary election that rearranged the benches in the Saeima, sending several veterans into retirement while voters backed a new prime minister.
The aftermath of those elections is still being parsed by the capital's press. Journalist Aidis Tomsons noted that the scale of the victory has left politicians with little room to avoid difficult decisions, while Lato Lapsa has turned his attention to the public broadcaster, accusing the program De Facto of running propaganda regarding an alleged offense by a Riga city council member.
Away from the capital, the rock band Līvi has begun a tour to mark its 50th year. The lineup includes Henrijs Mucenieks, who currently manages the double feat of playing for a legendary legacy act while his other band, Muud, sits at the top of the modern charts.
