🪢 Deadlock

The political stalemate over Kosovo's presidency has intensified, with Lumir Abdixhiku, chairman of the Democratic League of Kosovo (LDK), asserting that the country is now heading towards new elections. This comes amidst a deepening internal rift within the LDK, as six of its deputies continue to oppose the proposed presidential candidate, Bekim Sejdiu, despite an agreement with Prime Minister Albin Kurti's Vetëvendosje (LVV) party. Kurti, meanwhile, maintains that the agreement with the LDK for a joint candidate remains in force. The opposition Democratic Party of Kosovo (PDK) and Alliance parties continued their protests in front of the government building for the fourth consecutive week, accusing Prime Minister Kurti of holding the state hostage and demanding the constitution of the Assembly. In a positive development, a free trade agreement between the European Free Trade Association (EFTA) and Kosovo is set to take effect on October 1, 2026, signaling a step forward for the country's economic future. Additionally, authorities have arrested an individual on suspicion of war crimes, reportedly linked to the 'Intellectuals Group' case. Dukagjin Maxhuni has been released from detention in Serbia after nearly three weeks. Other domestic news includes a minor arrested for a hit-and-run incident in Lipjan and 130 students boycotting classes in Fushë Kosovë due to severely deteriorated school building conditions.
