A massive gas deal fraud has seen 300 billion forints embezzled from Hungary, with the investigation making little progress over two years. Separately, new documents reveal that organizations linked to Anikó Lévai, wife of former Prime Minister Viktor Orbán, received significant support from Lőrinc Mészáros's company, V-Híd, which benefited from state projects.
Further scrutiny on past government ties emerged as former Member of the National Assembly Erik Bánki requested a diplomat passport for the head of catering company Hungast, despite his previous denials of any connection. Meanwhile, Andrea Várkonyi, wife of Lőrinc Mészáros, claims she did not read her prenuptial agreement, which could impact her entitlement to a significant portion of his wealth.
In other news, the European Court of Human Rights ruled that Hungary unlawfully restricted the strike rights of teachers. Budapest Mayor Gergely Karácsony also promised a surge in urban development, acknowledging potential inconveniences for residents.
