The presidential office and the foreign ministry both lost senior figures to new roles. Maris Lauri is leaving active politics to become an economic advisor to President Ülle Madise, while the Foreign Ministry’s secretary general, Jonatan Vseviov, is doing the opposite: he has resigned his post to join the Social Democratic Party and run for parliament. Questions are being asked of a multi-billion euro offshore wind project in Lääne-Saaremaa after an investigation found its backer, Vahur Kraft, reported just €96 in sales revenue. Elsewhere, residents of a village in Setomaa find themselves living in a new kind of enclosure, trapped geographically between the national border fence and a newly dug tank ditch. In the courts, the individual known as Beebilõust appeared for a new hearing regarding past conduct, while prosecutors are examining claims that several politicians were involved in tax evasion schemes worth millions of euros.
