Four fall recipes to try

Four fall recipes to try

October: cooler days, darker mornings, and the agonizing decision of what to be for Halloween. (To that point, in case you were wondering: it does not appear that anyone makes Zelda: Breath of the Wild costumes for seven year old girls, and yes: this is a crushing blow for one seven year old girl in our home, but I digress.) Beyond grabbing some mums and a few decorative gourds for the front entry, I don't do much for decorating for fall. However, there are a few festive fall favorite recipes that I've collected (not created) and love to make as a surprise for my kids.

Spooky Pretzel Bark

This pretzel bark with it's googly eyes is so yummy and so much fun. Be careful though: it’s a dangerously perfect blend of sweet and salty. Once you make it you will find yourself coming back to sneak a bite again and again. Grab the recipe here.

Ghost Hand Pies

These are slightly fussy, but so darn cute that I make them each year. You can use a cookie cutter, but I haven't found one that’s whimsical enough for me, so I trace one out of cardboard and then cut out the shape. (A cookie cutter would be significantly faster!) I top these Nutella-filled hand pies (but let's be honest: they are homemade Pop Tarts) with buttercream or glaze and two cute little chocolate chip eyes. These are such a fun treat to have on the counter after school when no one is expecting it! Ghost Hand Pie recipe here.

Mini Pumpkin Muffins

This is a basic fall favorite that needs no further introduction. These are easy enough to make that my older girls can cook them themselves. This recipe isn't overly sweet or overly spicy and the muffins turn out incredibly moist. My kids love when I'm feeling generous and add a few mini chocolate chips, but I prefer to go without. Either way, here's the recipe.

Another staple for fall

I first discovered the Wellness Bath about six years ago. My husband had gotten ill while traveling and soon I felt under the weather as well. So I gave this bath a try after seeing several other oil friends rave by it.

They were right.

I took this bath two times over five hours. I woke up the next morning and I felt fine! I did some other things that also helped (diffuser + Ningxia Red + topical oil application), but since then this bath has been part of my toolbox. I've used it countless times to head something off or to shorten something that was starting to brew.

Wellness Bath
  • 1.5 c of (unscented) Epsom Salt
  • 2 T baking soda
  • 2 drops Purification
  • 2 drops Frankincense
  • 3 drops Thieves
  • 3 drops Exodus II (Sub ImmuPower if you don't have Exodus II)

The minute you feel a little off, mix all of these ingredients together. Let sit for 15-20 minutes and then pour the salts under the running water of a hot bath. Soak for at least 15-20 minutes making sure to submerge your feet and spine. Right before you get out of the tub, run cold water over your feet. This helps to seal up those pores and lock in all the goodness you’ve soaked up during the bath.

Then drink several glasses of water (and Ningxia). I repeat this bath every three hours until I am feeling awesome again.

Pro Tip: Mix some salts up NOW while you are still healthy. Then you will be all set and prepared when you need your next Wellness Bath.

Snippets of My Week

These two turned seven this past week! One of our traditions is the picture wall. Each year has a few added so that the wall shows each child from birth through their current age. Such a fun tradition!

Eva Baking.jpg

It’s so fun to have reached the stage where my girls can bake by themselves. Eva really likes making the pumpkin muffin recipe I shared above!
