Book Club: Friday October 8th, 8pm Paris Time

Book Club is on Friday, Oct 8th 8pm Paris time. Kristen will host. All are welcome!

We enjoy each others' presence and welcome newcomers warmly, as we share out thoughts and responses to the following:

From a talk at Rupert's meditation weekend last January, https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=x63KDsRoZcE

Here is the quote:

“The analogy that I often use is the screen and the movie. The screen is one thing, transparent, empty, indivisible; the movie is or seems to be/appears to be many things, many colors,

many shapes, many forms, so the movie is to the screen in the same relationship as existence is to being. We could upgrade our analogy of the screen and the movie to a space and a hologram. The empty, infinite, indivisible space would represent being, and the hologram would be the appearance

of multiplicity and diversity that that empty space assumes.

So the name God refers to this infinite, indivisible, formless being, from which everyone and everything emerges, from which everyone and everything derives, its apparently independent existence. I say apparently independent existence, because just as no character or object in a movie really exists on its own right, or in its own right, independent of the screen, but it's just a coloring of the screen, as no object that appears in a hologram really exists in its own right, but it's just a modulation of the empty space, so whatever exists in reality, the world, the universe, doesn't exist in its own right. It does not have its own being. It’s being is God's being, the only being there is. It derives its apparent existence from that which truly is infinite being, God's being. In other words, nothing truly exists. This is not a life denying philosophical, nihilistic statement. On the contrary, if properly understood, it is an affirmation of God's being.”
