Book Club: Friday October 22th, 8pm Paris Time

Jaya will host our bookclub meeting - Friday, October 22 at 8 pm Paris time /2 pm New York time.

The Body Approach: Jean Klein From The Book of Listening, pp. 321-323

" Our body is a beautiful musical instrument, like a Stradivarius, but it must be granted. We are the tuner. In order to grant this instrument which is so sensitive, so secret, it takes a total transformation of oneself, and this can only be done when we make one with our instrument, with our bodies.. We must be very sensitive in order to to grant our bodies. We need to find the stamp, the quality just of the deal, because the stamp is not just vibration, it's more than a vibration. 


One stamp contains all the other stamps. One deal contains all the other agreements. We need to have bipolar listening, internal listening, that fits inside and outside. We need to listen to what's happening inside the body, and what's coming from the so-called outside. Strictly speaking, there is no outside or inside. 


This beautiful instrument must be felt. It is by feeling it that we reach the right deal. This requires a very high art of listening. Our whole muscle structure must be kept in agreement in inaction as well as in action. This is bipolar listening. We must become able to listen. Hearing these fine vibes comes first in meditation. There is a very important moment when you listen inside, when you listen to the very listening. When you are aware of listening, there is no earphone, and nothing is listened. There is only listening. (long break)

It's amazing to discover yourself listening. But first there is listening to an object, then there comes listening to yourself. When listening is Silence, our musical instrument, our body, is totally penetrated by this not applicable listening. So is born something that is beyond human being. 


You are neither the body, the senses nor the mental. Really live in the absence of what you are not, and this reality will be the background of life. Live in the absence of yourself. In the absence of yourself there is presence. We should seize every opportunity to listen to ourselves without leading, without changing, without looking for something new. When we listen to ourselves and support listening, there is transformation, there is a kind of metamorphosis. 


This directionless listening is not fixed in the forehead, nor in the heart or in the abdominal region. Listening is absolutely moot. It's actually a bird flying everywhere. Watch when it lands. The moment you realize you are setting it, in that awareness, a vacuum will appear and it becomes the opening. Don't cage the bird. Open all doors. ′′

Be aware in the morning, that before the body wakes up there is another form of awakening. You then feel the body appearing inside you in this awakened presence. See how the body wakes up in you at this moment. You'll feel the old conditioning body is trying to return, old thoughts, feels, habits and so on.

Head to the touch feeling. She may appear in her hands first. Evoke that touch feeling and you'll feel a let go. Feel it. That's enough. Become aware of the shoulders, and also the frontal region. You should let yourself go totally in your bed. Put all the weight of your body, head, shoulders, scapula, hands, and legs, on the bed, on the floor, until all body parts are heavy. Feel like energy comes from the earth and it reaches the human body, and the human body is inter-penetrated by that energy. This is something very beautiful. You will become aware that your tensions are tusks that are reactions. Let it become so tangible in the morning that you keep that knowledge in the background throughout the day. This is some kind of internal contact.

You feel much more alive. It is only possible to go beyond contraction of the body by feeling the body, being aware. When that body expansion comes, you become free from the frontal region, and you feel localized behind, in your ancient brain. Don't make any effort to achieve this, it belongs to you, it liberates you from the body, it liberates you from space, any direction. I'd say, you're beyond space.

You must free yourself from the meditator. This is a very deep word. Make it yours. There is no meditating, there is only meditation. Mind can be quiet without trying to be quiet. It is only in your absence that there is peace, presence. In the absence that you are not, there is presence. But it's not an objective presence, that presence. It's a double absence. And when you have it, don't walk away from it. Every move you walk away from it. 


Abandon any residue in the forehead. Only then knowledge becomes knowledge. Knowledge takes place in front of you. Being knowledge is not localized anywhere. But temporarily she stands like behind you. That feeling of going backwards is very important because it takes you away from the thought factory in the forehead. When you're located behind you at the base of the skull, you can't think. The very impulse of thinking is extinct. No wording can happen when you are located behind. But ultimately even that subtle location dissolves and you find yourself nowhere, living nowhere.
