The next Book Club meeting is this Friday, June 25th 8pm Paris time, 2 pm New York time. Mark will be hosting.
We enjoy each others’ presence and welcome newcomers warmly. We start off by sharing our thoughts and reactions to a quote provided. Then we let whatever comes up to come up.
This week we’ll look at this excerpt from one of the talks at the recent Essence of Tantra retreat:
“We normally think that an object exists as an object out there in the world, and that we observe it through the transparent window of our eyes, registering it more or less accurately. Consider the possibility that before the object is perceived, it is not an object as such; it is the activity of consciousness. It is only the act of perception that renders it a perceived object. In other words, the seen object and the act of seeing is one thing not two. We normally think that the seen object exists over there, and that the experience of seeing takes place over here; however, the distance between the seen and the seer is itself created by the act of seeing. In reality there is no distance. The seer, the seeing and the seen are one. As Plotinus said, in this understanding there is no longer any question of holding an object in view. The vision is such that seeing and seen are one. Object and act of vision have become identical…The senses are not transparent windows through which we accurately perceive reality. They colour reality with their own qualities and limitations. In the case of a human being, they filter reality through the prism of thought and perception, thereby conferring name and form upon it, making the One appear as many.” ~ Rupert Spira
