Book Club: Friday August 26, 8 pm Paris Time, 2 pm New York time

Dearest Friends,

The next Book Club meeting is today, Friday, August 26th : 8pm Paris time, 2 pm New York time. Kathryn will be hosting.

This week, our quote is from the answer to a question that was asked at the March 2022 retreat at Mercy Center:

Questioner: (Paraphrased) …"I’m starting to see that I’m really serious about meditation, because suffering is so apparent and I have to get there, you know, I mean, when I say it I’m not trying to get anywhere, but it’s like when I’m walking around…I think well I have to get there…so it’s like I am drawn to meditate maybe more than what I should do because…"

Rupert: “When I’m walking around, I have got to get there” …the I is shining in the midst of your walking around, it’s shining in your desire to get there. All you need to do: emphasize the I. Stop paying attention to your walking, stop paying attention to your desire to get there. Pay attention to the I. You said it, “When I am walking around, I desire to get there.” It’s always I, I, I, always shining in the midst of experience. Just go there.

Q. Wow…I’ve got one more question…The meditation this morning was very powerful and it got me thinking that sometimes when I sit, there is a prayer that comes up: “Oh God, let me be free, let me be free, let me be free…”

R. Okay, let me refine your prayer. It’s a beautiful prayer, but refine it. “Oh God, I am free, I am free, I am free.”

Q. Okay. That’s what I was saying, because what came up with the meditation this morning is, if I’m saying “Let me be free”, then that means I’m not free. Right?

R. Exactly, so the prayer, the real prayer is, “I am free. I am free. I am free.
