Zohran Mamdani, Suzy Weiss, and the fixing of the American heart
I have been deeply troubled the last month by a clip I saw on Twitter. I was forced by gunpoint to learn about Suzy Ann Weiss, and by extension, The Free Press.
The clip featured Suzy lambasting an emergent "bro culture" surrounding food, that has been created by the wake of chef, writer, and world traveler, Anthony Bourdain, may he rest in peace.
Suzy asserts, that because of Bourdain's legacy, men cannot be satisfied by a simple hamburger or pizza anymore. In her mind, because of Bourdain's insistence on every meal being a "rescue mission" requiring a helicopter, that the simple pleasures of food can not be enjoyed by Anthony's disciples. She encourages her listeners to think less deeply about food.
The disgust I felt from this "take" is layers deep, I will break them down in three parts.
- It's completely and factually wrong, in fact, it is without exaggeration one of the most "wrong" things I've ever heard. Anyone even tangentially familiar with Bourdain's work knows that he loves pizza, hamburgers, and especially Hot Dogs. Or how He affectionally referred to them, "Meat in Tube-Form".
Bourdain's signature dish is a mortadella sandwich. Five cheap ingredients. Mortadella, mayo, dijon, bread, and cheese.
Bourdain understood deeply, the importance of how a simple meal is one of the most efficient tools for bringing people together, and challenging bad ideas.

I learned that there is another Bari Weiss. Suzy adds absolutely no differentiation from her sisters vile brand. There is another entity capable of vomiting the same swill, increasing the likelihood I will encounter more of this drivel that only exists to inject fascist (a word they hate) ideas into the feeble mind of the American "moderate".
-
Third, and worst of all, is watching Suzy being used as an attack dog, in a failed attempt to tarnish the legacy of a man who had deep disdain for the Zionist project, which the Weiss sisters are both fervent supporters of.
Suzy doesn't care about Anthonys impact on "chef culture".
She is, of course, disgusted by his ability to have sat down and have a glass of wine with the head of security of an illegal Israeli settlement in the West Bank, and make him look like an idiot and a monster.
When Bourdain was filmed in Ep1 S2 of Parts Unknown, entering an Israeli settlement, he asked his his guide about the home of a Palestinian resident covered in graffiti with stars of David that said "Death to the Arabs"
Bourdain, cooly and calmly, feigned impression when this security guard bragged about the apparatus of the new settlement, on the way to the officers home. The settler boasted that they were able to see anyone walking around the new neighborhood, even at night, and be able to identify them.
Then, over a meal of beautifully cooked beef and white wine, Bourdain asked him about the death threats painted on the walls of his Palestinian neighbor.
"Given what you told me earlier, identifying the perpetuators; is this in the realm of possibility? Why not paint it over?" Bourdain asked.
The security guards body language was clear. He appeared deeply ashamed of his behavior, or of his ability to answer the simple question.
So, is Suzy Weiss, a staunch supporter of the Zionist project, offended by Bourdain's adventurous culinary sensibility? Or perhaps, is she trying to create a reality where a beloved figures anti-settler ideology can be blamed for a string of bad dates?
There's a reason why Suzy and Bari reject the use of the term fascism. The accurate descriptor reveals their crass attempt to gaslight and reset a cultural memory, and grind it down into a powder they can snort and disappear into a disgusting cocktail to fuel their aesthetics and media careers. This destruction of beloved cultural ideas is a core tenant of authoritarianism.
But the good news, is this is no longer appears to be working, and the Weiss's are uniquely bad at it.
Anywhere this failed clip of Suzy is posted, the comment section is full of people who are smart enough to understand that her take is a complete inversion of the truth. And since October 7th, the positive view of Israel has since disintegrated in America, with only 12% of democrats expressing more sympathy to Israel then to the plight of the Palestinians.
This rejection of crude pro Israel propaganda is also demonstrated in broad support for Mamdani's near landslide victory in the New York Democratic Mayoral Primary. All of the money in the world, and all of the obtuse and baseless accusations of anti-semitism will not stop Zohran's rise.
So to the Weiss sisters, please understand your nearly decades long project to seduce the American moderate to side with the terror-state of Israel, has failed completely.
The Free Press social media campaign is pathetic, and evoking Bill Maher as the voice behind your ads shows how out of touch you are.
"Allah has awakened to people, and opened their eyes to evil doings of Israel, and the United States."
The American heart softens to your enemies, the poor, the trans, and the Palestinians. We ride the wave of Bourdain's wake, not drown in it. Both of you will be relegated to a footnote in history, about how the people were clever enough to see through a half-assed attempt to facilitate a genocide to erect a giant Simi Valley in Palestine.
All of our love, Free Country USA
