New home for my newsletter

Unveiling my Buttondown move, Django's hidden strengths, software as a puppy, and real-world AI chat.

Hello friends!

Hope you’re doing well. Just an FYI but I’ve moved my newsletter to Buttondown and I should have done this a long time ago, it fits my use case andd brain perfectly.

It’s easy enough to use I fear you might be hearing from me more regularly! 😀

Django App Ecosystem

One of the main strengths of Django is it’s third party ecosystem, but it’s sadly not as visible as it should be to both new and experienced users. One of my main goals (as well as the rest of the Django Steering Council) is to elevate them more. So I wrote up a blog post on that topic to supplement the official Django blog post on the subject.

Other small post

I also ran across a good quote on a podcast and wrote about how software is more like raising a puppy than owning a house. It needs regular care and feeding and is usually not fixed by large “replace the roof and you don’t have to think about that for another X years” changes.

AI in the Real World - DjangoChat Episode

I highly encourage you to watch the latest DjangoChat episode on AI in the Real World. It’s a great mixture of excitement and level headed skepticism about software development with AI from some of my favorite people.

Couple of other interesting links I found today, one is a very useful looking Django admin module for inspecting the data in your Redis instance dj-redis-panel give it a whirl and let me know what you think.

I’ll leave you with a small bit of wisdom to consider…

Randomly thought this to myself as I talked a small team out of doing big team things.

Appreciate you taking the time to read this and if you have a friend who might be interested in content like this please pass a link along to them.

Thanks and until next time!
