ray johnson & a good good bag
Why emails?
I like sharing things. I like interacting with people. I like making stuff. I like trying new things. I like gluing things to other things.
I dislike how proficient social media is at controlling my attention. I dislike the rigidity of what's shareable. I dislike giving rich folks more money.
I want to try this instead.
Ray Johnson is a neat artist.

My high school art teacher, Mr. Early, showed us a documentary about Ray Johnson in class: How to Draw a Bunny. I think it left a significant impression on me. My favorite art undermines routine and emphasizes the mundane. I find joy in including the viewer in the art and encouraging play. And, I like to mail stuff. It seems like there are a lot of parallels between those values and Ray's work, and I wonder how much of that was influenced by watching a documentary over 15 years ago.
If you decide to watch the documentary, please reply and let me know what you thought of it!
I carry a bag of stuff now.
I have introduced a bold new technology into my life: a bag. It holds only good stuff:
Headphones & earplugs for sensory crises.
My favorite Fujifilm x100 camera so that I never miss a great landscape and I can blend into the background of social scenarios at a moment's notice.
And most importantly, a 6x4" box of art supplies. So that I always have the ability to leave sticky note doodles and send postcards.

Other random stuff because I don't know how to format these emails yet:
