So I have a substack now...

Kia ora koutou!

I sort of thought this site would be more of a blogging platform with a mailing list on the side, but that appears to not be the case! But oh well, it’s a good a place as any to start practicing writing things that aren’t fiction.

I’ve been working on a Game of the Year list for 2022, because it’s been the first year that I’ve actually been able to play a bunch of stuff that actually came out this year! Though that said, it’s going to be a little loosely-defined because I want to also include some games that were new to me this year, and maybe one or two I just played a lot of.

Aside from that, I always have a ton of works-in-progress that I work on little pieces of here-and-there, and I wanted this space to be somewhere I can post the little things I write that I don’t really have a for place anywhere else - I recently wrote a very silly, short thing (I don’t even know what to call it lol) inspired by one of my very favourite podcasts, ‘If You’re Driving Close Your Eyes’. It’s fairly new at this point, only has about seven episodes at time of writing, but it’s very, very funny and I highly recommend it. However I would not say that it’s safe for work or kids - so maybe use some discretion the first time you listen! I initially posted this on my itch.io page earlier this week, but I wanted to include it in this post, in a more easily accessible format. I disclaimer though: I cannot guarantee that this will make any sense or be funny in any way if you’re not familiar with the comedy stylings of ‘If You’re Driving Close Your Eyes’. Hell, even if you are, it might not be funny, so, sorry!

How aircon-ditioner work
By Rebecca E.L. Swift - 11/2022

Inspired by me wanting to know how aircon-ditioner work, written in the style of an ‘If You’re Driving Close Your Eyes’ bit.

Aircon-ditioner have outside part and inside part, pipe in middle. Pipe have gas inside too.

When make house cold, gas go to outside part get squished and become hot. Hot gas go to metal part inside fan outside, become cold water. Cold water go inside house, become unsquashed, become gas again, make air cold.

When make house warm, aircon-ditioner inside part have metal thing become hot because electricity. Air go past hot metal part become hot also, go into house and house become warm.

So. There’s that!

Thanks so much for taking the time to read. Please go listen to If You’re Driving Close Your Eyes, it’s free and it’s on Spotify, Apple Podcasts and Google Podcasts (other places too, check their website!)

I hope everyone is staying happy and safe out there, staying cool or warm depending on which hemisphere you’re in or your preference. I promise that if I keep doing this, it will be a lot less of a jumbled mess soon lol.

Noho ora mai!

Rebecca
