No big post today (sorry)!
Kia ora, friends.
I have had… a lot going on this week. That has meant that I haven’t really had the chance to sit down and get a proper post together. Apologies! So in lieu of sharing some of my writing like I try to do every week, I thought I could just quickly go over some of the pop culture stuff I have been consuming lately! Sound good? I hope so!
My brain is kind of always all over the place, and even more so this past week in particular, so I’ve been doing several things. One of which has been taking care of Lemon, my neighbour’s pet axolotl. I don’t have much more to say about that because he doesn’t do much, but I love him so much I am thinking about getting my own!
Other than watching this guy to see what he’s gonna do next (usually nothing), I started rewatching Altered Carbon recently and finished up the first season this week. It’s a cool show and I definitely recommend it, but I was surprised by how kind of mediocre the writing was this second time around. I think the plot is mostly solid but sometimes the dialogue is just plain bad. Still, it has Joel Kinnaman, Martha Higareda and Dichen Lachman in it so it’s worth a watch just to see them.
The other big thing I’ve been doing the last couple days is getting back into Fallout 4 on my Xbox. I first played this back on the Xbox One - this was the game that convinced me I needed to get the new console, and that my then perfectly good Xbox 360 was no longer good enough. I adore this game. I know it has a ton of bad writing and I cannot excuse the racist reinterpretation of the underground railroad, and a bunch of the quest design is also kind of terrible, but what really resonates with me is the freedom of gives the player. I spend most of my time in this game just scavenging for gear and junk, doing side-quests, building bases and turning junk into useful things like ammo and goods to see for more caps. I also really like the shooting in this game, which I know is an unpopular take, but in my opinion it’s a lot better than in Fallout 3 or New Vegas. Saying this is a good game is kind of a hot take, so I am undecided about whether I can actually recommend it, but if you have never played a Fallout game, this might be a good way to start… maybe?
Besides those few things, I have mostly just spent this last week being very low-energy and sad, so again I apologise that I haven’t been able to do a proper post about my writing. I have been working on stuff a little bit, but I haven’t got anything to really share right now. Sorry!
Anyways, I hope you liked this little detour, but if not never fear! Normal posting will resume again next Monday. In the meantime, maybe check out my Letterboxd if you haven’t already? As always, thanks so much for reading, I really appreciate it, and I enjoy making posts for you all.
Take care, everyone, I’ll talk to you all again really soon. Ka kite anō au i a koe. 💚
