Four Things - January 2026
Candide. Neanderthals. Scottish Ensemble. 49.7%.
1 / Reading
I re-read Voltaire's Candide for Venkat Rao's Contraptions Book Club.
2 / Building
Like many nerds, I built several projects over the holiday break using Claude Code and Google's Antigravity. My favorite project was building a browser-based video game called Early Human Extravaganza with my oldest son.
It's a bit of a riff on Minecraft, where you collect resources, craft tools, hunt dinosaurs for food (and survive their attacks).
He has ideas for turning it into a Civilization-like game that brings humanity forward from neanderthals to the present 😬.
3 / Listening
I enjoyed Scottish Ensemble's concert at candlelight at Greyfriar's Kirk in Edinburgh.
It encouraged me to listen to more classical music during a dark and cold winter, which has been relaxing if a bit melancholic.
4 / Number
49.7%
The compound annual decline rate of Tesla's net income since FY 2023. (10K)
Bonus: 'Roughly 45% of [Microsoft's] commercial RPO balance is driven by commitments from OpenAI'. (Slide 6)
