The indictment says Levi’s first shot struck Hathaleen while he stood 20 meters away filming. Levi says he acted in self-defense. His lawyer calls the charge mistaken.
The filing arrived just over a year after the shooting and nearly six months after prosecutors first said it was coming. B’Tselem says it’s the first indictment of an Israeli for killing a Palestinian in the West Bank since Oct. 7, 2023. The family’s lawyer credits several videos and a year of pressure on police and prosecutors.
