[+] 13 Feb 2024

This is the beta of foofaraw[+], the temporary home of something new.

Thanks for coming along for the ride, let me know what you think and if you have any ideas for how it can be improved.

I'm going to need to set a deadline for myself because I just kept adding and adding and adding today and now I don't know what I'm going to do for a Wednesday issue... oh well...

Mostly following the same format as the first issue, but have a few subheadings too to add additional context for certain topics. Even have some books and video games info in the misc. section.

Top of the News

The hideous spectacle of Vince McMahon — Indignity

  • This was a terrific interview going through the Vince McMahon and WWE situation. Some of this shit is truly despicable.

L.A. Times Critic Justin Chang Joins the New Yorker – The Hollywood Reporter

  • I’ve never been a huge Lane fan so I’m exxcited to see him take something new on and get a new voice in Justin Chang to review films.

Is the Media Prepared for an Extinction-Level Event? — The New Yorker

You want to make it in journalism, he said? Marry rich. We laughed. He didn’t.

Beyoncé Announces New Album Act II, Shares New Songs: Listen — Pitchfork

  • I find this whole situation pretty wild just given the Beyoncé vs Swift thing that has been a relevant cultural conversation for years now. Having Beyoncé do the reverse-Swift is pretty cool.

Gloria Gaynor: 'I Will Survive' Review: Doc Proves the Disco Legend Still Has Life to Live — Variety

  • I loved ‘I Will Survive’ as a kid. And still do today. Awseome to see a doc about Gaynor is getting some good reviews.

Brubaker and Phillips return with HOUSES OF THE UNHOLY — Comics Beat

  • The kings of crime comics are returning. This will always be above the fold news.

The Matrix Co-Director Is Finally Back With A New Movie – But It's Not Science Fiction — Slash Film

  • The Wachowski filmography is not great. But still, there will always be excitement for what they do based on “The Matrix” alone. To see Lily do something solo outside of SciFi is really exciting.

Josh Safdie to direct Adam Sandler stand-up special — The A.V. Club

  • Another sibling split. The idea of Safdie directing stand-up is thrilling. Plus Sandler’s last Netflix special was underrated. This is something I’ll be keeping a close eye on.

2024 Super Bowl Ratings: Most Watched Broadcast Since Moon Landing — IndieWire

  • That’s just wild. Is it the Taylor Swift factor or the KC going for back-to-back? Or overtime that drew more people in? I’m leaning towards Swift.

TV

“Feud: Capote vs. the Swans” Is a Simulacrum of a Scandal — The New Yorker

  • From LWNYR:

    • Very convincing as to the awfulness of the new show, so if you like offense more than defense, you'll find plenty of scored points here. You can already guess my critiques: no overall thesis beyond the show's unworthiness, not enough formal analysis, a few inapt coinages (not sure about 'tragi-camp.') But a dunk this forceful is always entertaining.
