I just released Font Proofer 1.5 and it’s the biggest update since launch!

But before I get into the details, I need to mention that this update includes an urgent infrastructure fix. Older versions of the app used a 3rd-party service that suddenly decided to shut down at the end of 2024. They gave very little warning—but fortunately I was able to rebuild everything in time. Older versions will stop working at the end of 2024, so please update the app now—even if you aren’t currently using Font Proofer. I sincerely apologize for the inconvenience.

What’s New in Version 1.5

Ok, back to the exciting stuff! I’ll highlight a few of the new features in this email, but be sure to check out the full breakdown & screenshots of what’s new—I’m sure you’ll find something that excites you!

• 🔠 All-New Glyph Grid Layout: I’ve spent over a year rebuilding the Glyph Grid layout to support slanted side bearings for italic fonts, vertical writing directions, better glyph name labels, intelligently avoiding collisions between glyphs, and a lot more.

• ⌨️ List of Glyph Names: Specify a list of glyph names for the Glyph Grid content—even unencoded glyphs! Names can be separated by spaces, line breaks, or anything.

• 🌓 Multi-Style Spacing Strings: The Style Comparison layout supports a new design attribute called Content Overflow. When using a Columns arrangement, it lets each column continue on additional pages (instead of being limited to 1 page). This enables new use cases, including multi-page multi-style spacing strings!
