Celebrating 3 Years 🎈
Today marks 3 years since Font Proofer launched! I’m proud of how much the tool has evolved and matured, and delighted by the exceptional typefaces that folks like you have made while using it (some recent examples below).
This past year I released several new versions based on your feedback, and it’s exciting to see the tool gain more advanced features. For example, the most recent update, v1.7, gives you fine-grained control over the little labels for things like font size, tracking, and (now) the status of kerning or OpenType features. Speaking of which, kerning and default OpenType features (ex: liga, calt) are now turned on by default! Finally! 😉
As most type designers can relate to, marketing isn’t my forte, but I’ve tried to continue spreading the word about Font Proofer by speaking at type conferences like ATypI Copenhagen and the Rencontres de Lure in France (video). Hopefully the ATypI videos will be available soon! 🤔 These presentations aren’t about selling the tool, but rather to increase awareness and spark conversations. Discussing how to better proof super families, early-stage Arabic typefaces, and unencoded scripts… these nerdy conversations energize me to make something wonderful for you!
Each year it’s a challenge to balance Font Proofer’s ambitious feature roadmap with the fact that I still need to take on client work to pay the bills. But as we enter its 4th year, I’m eager to invest more of my time and money into the project, to launch crucial new features like Glyph Clusters and Proof Gallery—your most frequent requests. I’m feeling optimistic that 2026 will be a great year for Font Proofer!
For now, check out some of the cool new features from 2025!
Thank you for being part of the Font Proofer family. You inspire me every day!
