Upgrade U (Nightcore Remix)
What a week, huh? I've decided to give up on the affiliate links altogether. Honestly, it adds more work to writing these than there should be.
I'm looking to the future for obvious reasons: Twitter actively burning down. So as a nice pick-me-up, I started looking for fonts that feel optimistic and futureproofed in some way. Anyway, you know how this works: three fonts that rule, then a freebie at the end. (Also the Upgrade U nightcore remix? That's real.)
Disc, by Lucas Descroix
$24, via Future Fonts (Desktop/Web/App License)
Taylor's notes: Big, chunky, and retrofuturistic. You could tell me this font released thirty years ago or this week. Feels like an indicator that Disc will be an absolute workhorse, especially once it's developed.
"Wait, what's Future Fonts?"
It's early access for fonts, basically. If you buy in early, you get the final product at a reduced price, with the usual understanding that it may not be finalized or expanded to your liking.
Superlumina, by Studio Buchanan
$15 individually for desktop and web, via Creative Market
Taylor's notes: I love fonts that treat different heights and widths like taffy, compressing and stretching as needed. The quirks of the lowercase letterforms give it more personality than the sample image initially lets on, too.
False Crown, by RVQ Type Foundry
$24 (Desktop and Web) via YouWorkForThem
A new Fever Ray album is on the horizon, which has me thinking about metal fonts again. I usually find them overwhelming to look at, but this one reins in the tendrils unless you activate a special character set.
Freebie of the Week
Lugati Sans, by Kulture Type
Pay what you want (free for commercial use) via Gumroad.
Taylor's notes: Kulture Type is one of my favorite current foundries. They put out a lot of stuff, but it all has a distinctive style. Usually desktop only, but don't let that deter you from playing around! Tip a few bucks if you can, and keep an eye out for their bundles too. Real good fonts all around.
