Francis Morrone—August 2022

Hello,

I hope you are all well and enjoying the summer. As for me, I’ve tried this summer to cut down on tours and lectures so I can catch up on my writing projects. I feel that during this Covid era I’ve become the one-man universal Zoom content provider, and one consequence of that is that in the last two years I’ve done less writing than in any two-year period of my adult life! And a consequence of that is that I am desperately late on a book project, for which I’ve been able to negotiate an extension to September 31. Wish me luck.

Nonetheless, I want to let you know about my one and only lecture series in August, which I’m really looking forward to. It’s An Architectural History of Art Deco for the 92nd Street Y (er, “92NY,” as they are now called, which I, as someone who still says “Pan Am Building” and “RCA Building,” will never get used to). It’s a follow-up to my earlier 92NY series on Art Nouveau. There will be four one-hour lectures by Zoom on Wednesdays—July 27, August 3, August 10, and August 17—at 3:00. They will also be recorded—and since I won’t be the one responsible for pressing the record button, you know they really will be recorded.

This will be a global survey of Art Deco (and related styles, such as Art Moderne) from the 1910s through the 1940s, covering all kinds of buildings with sidelights on interior decoration, industrial design, and typography. Though it’s a global survey (not just Europe and the U.S. but also Asia, South America, and Africa), I surely will not fail to give New York its due.

I hope you’ll join me for this, and at the beginning of September I’ll send an email with news about my fall programs.

Thanks, and stay well. Here’s the link:

All my best,

Francis
