florilegia #21: what's up, november 2025

Hello to new subscribers (Big Gay Market attendees, you know who you are)! Since there are a fair few of you, I thought I’d reintroduce myself. I’m Diana, or Dee or D., a library worker and writer in one of the other New York cities. This newsletter takes the form of one news round-up, one long-form essay, and one photo album per month. You can find my back catalogue of short fiction, full-length work, zines, editorial content, and media appearances here.

The Halloween edition of BGM was super fun, and if you won a raffle prize, you can expect it in the mail early next week! Locals can also find my zines and my husband’s prints at the Mt. Ida Preservation Hall next month, hosted by the mighty Paper Moon. I’ll also be reading some atmospheric Christmas stories on Story Hour with (!!) Ash Huang in December.

my table, complete with books, zines, embroidered patches, selections of linocut prints, and a prize wheel.
the prize wheel was fun, I admit.

I’ve had work in the world since last we spoke. “The Blood Child,” based on easily my grossest intrusive thought, is loose in Cosmic Daffodil’s “Body Archive” issue. Hellarkey vol. 4 is real and it is beautiful, and I have been authorized by publisher Alan that gently dispersing the ebook copy is permitted. I also talked about Mo Moshaty’s collection Clairviolence for DIS/MEMBER (and included a tiny tarot spread).

A few links from the larger world:

  • the season of haunts continues; Halloween is just a gateway. Therefore, Lincoln Michel on Shirley Jackson for your enjoyment. There’s much to love about this essay, from Michel’s casual declaration of multiply rereading favorites (one of us!!) to his keen focus on Hill House’s haunted voice: the occasional omniscient narrator.

  • I have Thoughts on Frankenstein forthcoming from D/M, and this LitHub piece captures a lot of what I loved about it. Are you a del Toroista?

  • this write-up of a conversation between terror titans Matt Ruff and Tananarive Due about religion’s influence on and relationship to horror is my catnip.

  • I’m old and refuse to say “skramz” but this is an undeniable screamogaze specimen.
