Butterflies, beer, drawings: all part of the Flock Festival 🦋🍺🖼️

Hey there,

If I say:

  • a butterfly outing

  • drinking beer for charity

  • live illustration

  • the best theatre you’ve ever seen,

what do you think?

Yes, exactly. The Flock Festival 🌞

In this email, I will tell you all about it.

Butterfly outing

We have partnered up with Nicky, 'the Butterfly Man' who has a butterfly garden near our festival accommodation: Amsterdam Farm Lodge. (By the way, we still have a few beds left)

Nicky does such great work, and is a lovely person. And -just for the Flock Festival- he offered to do his butterfly course during the festival.

It is planned on Thursday 27th of June and more information can be found here.

If you haven’t booked a workshop, and you'd like to join for €15, you can email Nicky at hallo@vlindertuinmotinmokum.nl We need at least 6 people for it to happen.

Drinking beer for charity (and other partners)

  • Drink a Hummingbrew beer in the Flock Studio bar, and support saving the rainforest. Really, come drink beer for charity. Thank you to our partner Bird Brewery!

  • Every day of the festival, our partner the Vegan Bear Chef will make delicious lunch and dinner. You can find him in the Cantina, in the festival area for a sit-down meal (yummy, fresh, very affordable).

  • If you need a bike during the festival -and feel like a true Amsterdammer- we recommend you check out our partner Frederic’s bike rental. With code FLOCK24 you get a 15% discount.

  • When you have a Frenchman as an artistic leader, then you can expect the wine to be top-notch. And oh boy, did our partner Pépin wines deliver. Try one (or all) of the natural wines from the biodynamic domain in Alsace, run by our friends Pierre and Jean.

Next time, I will also tell you about our sponsors. Because they are making our festival possible!

Live illustration

Like in every Flock show, we will have gorgeous pictures from our photographers. It is our favorite way of looking back on the great shows we saw together.

But during the Flock Festival, we will have another visual memento: illustrations. Made live, during the show, inspired by the performance.

The wonderful Babette will capture some of our shows in drawing. And we will make sure you get to see them, live and on our Instagram, maybe even take one home.

P.S. Would you like to volunteer for us, as well? We are still looking for a few bartenders, welcome crew and door attendants. Maybe you? Just email Christianna at tsigkou@gmail.com

Bringing back the best Flock productions

During the Flock Festival, we will reprise 3 of the most successful Flock productions. This time: with an international cast.

1. The True North

After 3 performances of The True North in 2022, the newspaper said the show was “a unique weave of mime and drama”.

We love that we will be collaborating again with Museum Amsterdam Noord and HCAN.

Their true stories about this area of Amsterdam are fascinating, surprising and juicy. Which can only lead to a fascinating, surprising and juicy improvised theatre performance (with live music).

To see this show, get tickets for Thursday 27 June. Your ticket also gives you entrance to The Hero·ine Who Got Lost (by Inbal Lori & Gael Doorneweerd-Perry) and SoundOff (by Bemme&Melange).

2. Transperceneige

Instead of us talking, let us give the floor to an audience member:

“Wow! I’ve seen a lot of improvised theatre shows, but this was a complete experience where every choice of the director guided the audience into the theme and atmosphere of the show. Great stage and light design making us feel part of the train. Beautiful music in an astonishing interplay with the actors. And wonderful improvisers playing a dystopian fiction with dedication and focus! 10/10 Would go again!”

And you can!

’To see this show, get tickets for Friday 28 June. Your ticket also gives you entrance to the International Ensemble (directed by Inbal Lori) and Scandalous Women of Amsterdam (by the festival cast).

3. The Matrix

After a fully sold-out run of shows in 2023, we can’t wait to bring back this action-packed show inspired by the 1999 movie The Matrix.

With an international cast, we will be (further) exploring the tension between A.I. and the creativity of the improv actor.

The Matrix is supported by the Amsterdam Fund for the Arts.

To see this show, get tickets for Saturday 29 June. Your ticket also gives you entrance to Soundpainting (by David Moncada and 9 different artists) and Atlantis Falls (by Chris Mead & Charlotte Gittins).

Thanks for reading to the end.

When I get excited (and I am about this festival), I get lengthy. Hope you enjoyed it!
