Hey there!

When was the last time you did something risky?

I perform theatre without a script. So you might think: not much is risky to you anymore.

But the Flock Theatre shows are actually intensively prepared, by doing genre research, rehearsing the skills and crafting the show structure. Then on stage we discover the brand-new story.

But now we have started a series of RISKY shows. Risky even to us.

What Impro.

As experienced performers, we enter the stage, and we will not know anything (other than our dress code). Then the show designer announces to us -and to the audience- the show they have prepared.

And then… We step into the absolute, risky unknown.

  • Curious to see it? Come this Thursday! More info below.

An experimental show that is a surprise for everyone

What Impro is a completely exclusive show that is a surprise for you, the audience, as well as for all the actors in the show!

WHAT IMPRO

A cast of seasoned performers enters the stage, and hears then-and-there from the director what type of show they will improvise.

Will it be a heist story? A puppetry show? A silent play?

Come witness this experimental razor-edge show performed by some of the most experienced improv actors of Amsterdam.

For this second edition of the What Impro, Tanine Dunais will be the show designer.

5 questions about What Impro: the Heist Headquarters

Who was the show designer? That was me! (Laura)

What was your idea? I love the action genre, and I devoured the tv series Le casa de papel. These are the type of stories that can make you forget your daily shenanigans. I chose ‘after the heist’ so the audience could be part of the best part: creating the plan.

What was the role of the audience? Before the players arrived, I asked 5 audience members to draw notes and arrows on the whiteboards and pick pictures and objects. When the players arrived, they were told this was the inspiration for the failed heist attempt.

What did the players know before the show? To wear a simple colored t-shirt. (And I guess they got some ideas from finding a coverall in their size in the dressing room.)

How was the show? The players were super inspired by the set created by the audience: you could just see it on their faces. Then an energetic whodunnit unfolded, with intrigue, action scenes, and secret love affairs between the crew. It even included a cameo from our light tech Gurbaksh as the mastermind on the phone. After the show, players and audience members talked over a drink about what had happened in the bank vault.

We hope to see you at this Thursday’s show!
