This is the calm before the storm. This summer. ☀️

I can feel it. We have had 5 years of Flock Theatre. And at this moment, we are just before the season where many things change.

Change is wonderful, but it is also ‘spannend’ _{(=a Dutch word meaning something like: exciting in a tense way, tense in an exciting way. Fun & scary in one word.)}

In this newsletter, I share some good news we received. 🎉 And I am inviting you to the events of the new season. Shows, workshops, courses.

💪 Support for the next step

Recently, we got the wonderful news that Cultuurfonds and stadsdeel Amsterdam-Noord will support Flock 2.0 🎉

Thanks to the support of our hometown, the city of Amsterdam, we can make our Treehouse studio ready for the public. With comfortable seating, a proper backstage, better acoustics, clear signage, and neighborhood tickets for local residents who wouldn’t otherwise visit the theatre.

And thanks to Cultuurfonds Noord-Holland, we can dedicate real time and care to the very first season of our Flock Company Members: a group of 12 talented performers who will train, perform, and grow with us.

Since 2020, Gael and I have been building our unscripted theatre company from the ground up, and we are stoked to have these 2 local funds on our side for the next step.

Yes, give me certainty!

For September, we invited inspiring improv teacher Anton Romanus. He is former AD of successful Swedish improv company GBGimpro and he will teach his 2-day workshop ‘Making It Real’.

This workshop will focus on playing grounded, multilayered and specific characters.

It’s all about improvised acting and how we can challenge ourselves. You will be playing realistic relationships, with conflicts and tension, how to use silence in scenes and holding on to our characters perspective.

• Monday 19:00 — For whoever wants to take their first steps with 2 teachers.

• Tuesday 19:00 — For advanced improvisers who think narrative longform is hard.

• Tuesday 20:30 — For players who like to learn to play emotions big.

• Wednesday 19:00 — For improvisers who want to play all kinds of scenes every week.

• Wednesday 20:30 — For whoever wants to dip their toe into improv.
