Claude Starts Watermarking Every Word It Writes
Anthropic has begun embedding an invisible watermark in text Claude generates, across the API, claude.ai, Claude Code, Claude Cowork, and Claude on AWS, Google Cloud and Microsoft Foundry. There is no opt-out and it applies worldwide. The driver is Article 50 of the EU AI Act, enforceable since August 2. The mechanism is a subtle bias in the model's word choices that survives copy and paste, which means a regulation written in Brussels now shapes how a model in California picks its next token, for every user on earth. |
