The Privilege of Adoption (Announcements for 17 July)
Hi Everyone,
-- This is a resend. Sorry if you are getting this a second time. I made an "operator error" when I sent this earlier.
In Romans 8 we learn about the privilege and blessing of God’s gracious act to adopt us as his sons, making us joint heirs with Christ. We are given in a new love for God, we are given bold access to our heavenly Father in prayer, and we have a new love and concern for His church.
Next Saturday, 23 July there will be a memorial service for Sam Moncrieff at 1 pm at the church. Sam’s obituary is included at the end of this announcement.
Our Fellowship Lunch is postponed until next Sunday, 24 July.
Next Lord’s day, 24 July, our former pastor, retired OPC minister Donald Buchanan, will fill our pulpit in the morning and administer the Lord’s Supper.
Sincerely,
Elder Lemen

Obituary of Samuel Moncrieff, II
Samuel ‘Kehir Bear’ James Moncrieff, II, of Redwood City, passed away on January 11, 2022. He passed away quietly at home due to ILD, a lung disease, with his devoted wife by his side.
Sammy (as Julie affectionately called him) was born July 23, 1932, in Redwood City to Samuel Sr. and Georgia Moncrieff. He grew up with his older sister, Violet and younger brother, Donald. As a teen he loved spending his time at the ocean with his father and protecting his friends. As he got older, he enrolled in the Navy, became a Seabee, where he used his hands to build and remodel facilities for his Navy brothers. This sparked his passion for construction and soon he became a general contractor. Construction was a field he loved and his intuitive eye and talent for building anything was legendary.
At 17 years old he met and fell in love with Julie Olsen while attending Sequoia High School in Redwood City. They were married March 8, 1953. They started a family in Guam, where Sammy was stationed, and Julie faithfully followed. His children are Debbie (born in Guam), Sam (Bo), Calvin, and Johnny. As a family they loved and spent a lot of time camping , backpacking, and attending church events. Being a focused and dependable father and man of God was of the utmost importance to Samuel, and he loved his family and the Lord with his whole heart.
Sam and Julie initially joined the Orthodox Presbyterian Church in Guam in 1955, under the pastoral leadership of Chaplin Lynn Wade. When returning stateside they continued serving the Lord at the San Francisco OPC, followed by attending South San Francisco (Brentwood) Church, where Sam served as a Deacon, Elder, and Sunday School Superintendent. Years later, the family moved and Sam continued to worship his Lord at the Sunnyvale OPC.
At 48 years old he retired, packed up his tools and fulfilled his lifelong heart goal to serve his Lord on the Mission field. He traveled the world to primitive locations where he connected with the local people, shared his life, his talent, his Lord, built teams, and together built many facilities and buildings for the local churches and missionaries.
Sam is survived by his faithful wife of 68 years, Julie, and his children: Debbie, Bo, and Johnny. ‘Kehir Bear’ (as he is affectionately called by all his grandchildren) had a special place in his heart for his grandchildren: Sammy IV, Markey, Michael, Kelley, Lucas, Matti, Amanda, Kyle, Bryanna, Hillary, Katie, Ruthie, Johnny and Lorelei. His great-grandchildren: Taylor, Piper, Lexi, Sammy V, Jaeda, Avery, Maximus, Skye, Markus, and Julianna. His great-great-grandchildren: Phoebe and Kayce. Sam was proceeded in passing by his son, Calvin.
